No need to attend course to make the switch. Just remember a few
things:
1) Always step on the brake when shifting between
Park-Reverse-Drive. Most if not all auto gear should have safety
feature that does not allow you to move out of Park unless the
brake pedal is depressed.
2) Visually check; either indicator on dash or gear itself; that
you have selected the right gear (R or D) -- choose wrong gear +
step on accelerator = disaster.
3) You cannot push start auto gear.
4) As mentioned by another contributor, auto gear car creeps
forward when D is engaged. The speed varies from make to make, but
usually quite slow.
5) Use right foot for both accelerator and brake pedals. Left foot
can rest on foot rest.
Switching from manual to auto gear not difficult, you will get use
to it real fast.
Most challenging: driving rental manual gear left-hand drive cars
overseas, imagine changing manual gear with right hand and driving
on the other side.
