FULL-TIME National Serviceman Chia Wee Kiat, 24, has died from head
injuries which he suffered on Sunday, during an accident at the
OCBC Cycle Singapore.
Mr Chia, who was a first-timer at the annual ride, hurt himself at
Benjamin Sheares Bridge soon after the start of the 59km Super
Challenge.
He was brought by ambulance to the Singapore General Hospital where
he underwent a 13-hour surgery, and remained in the intensive care
unit since.
Investigations are still ongoing as to how Mr Chia fell. Witnesses
gave contrasting accounts of the accident. One said that he fell on
his own at high speed, while another said he was involved in a
crash with others.
