well i'm suprised because almost all of the boss fights(in kara
that is) favours dots as the main source of dps, the exception
being aran, where melee does exceptionally well. and if u pair
locks with shadowpriests.... mages simply cannot even come
close.
the only type of mage that can come close so far is a very high
critrate scorch built, even then when the encounter requires
mobility or has intermittent disruptions(maiden?) a mage's dps will
suffer naturally. here's my guild's scorch mage

w/o any alchemy buffs 34% crit, 986 fire damage, but still will be
outdps-ed by a decent UA lock at bosses.
of course er... dun count trash mob dps la, dotlocks will naturally
lose to mages in such cases
