What you're using is Pascal's wager, go wiki it, it's a very
weak argument for faith really but it was actually what kept
my "faith" going in the last few months or so before my
deconversion from religion.
The thing is, it's not 50% chance at all. What if Muslims and
not Christians are right? Hindus also, or Scientologists, or Greek
gods, or literally any kisiao god you can imagine. So the real
chance of entering heaven if heaven exists is
0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001*infinity
percent.
But still better than 0% right? Eh but the thing is, the odds of
success exactly the same for non-believers as well. What if god
dictated that you can only go to heaven if you DON'T believe? Or
what if it's based on morals only (like in Buddhism? not sure)
Fact is, there are infinite possibilities for the kind of god or
heaven that might exist so really it's better for one to stick to
his or her beliefs all the way, maybe you might get rewarded after
all :)
p.s. I hope you not religious ah, january.
