DS SAMY
VELLU who will be always remembered
Dato Seri Samy Vellu
finally and officially resigned from his post as the longest MIC
President ever, after leading the party for almost 31 years. The
Malaysian Insider has its story, here . Frankly, I will miss him
very much especially for all the funny quotes he made all these
years. Like what our Prime Minister said in the 2010 Barisan
Nasional Conference, “We will miss DS Samy Vellu because he add a
lot of color … sometimes a bit too much color”. Therefore, as a
token of appreciation, I just wanna share some of the more famous
quotes ever made by the one and only, Samy Vellu.
1. Samy Velu quoted on Pos
Laju:
"Besoh
kirim, hari ini juga sampai"
"Tomorow send, will receive today" (Translated by
Yahya Hamid)
2. On one TV news when he tried to
say he felt very ashamed:
"Ini prekara
sangat memalukan saya dan kemaluan saya sangat-sangat la
besar"
"One matter that I'm ashamed of and my
'shamefulness' (kemaluan) is very very big". (Translated by
Yahya Hamid)
Note:"Malu" means ashamed, embarrased, shy.
But "Kemaluan" means 'private parts / genitals". So, in Malay
he said that: "My
genital is Very Very BIG"!!
Heee.....heeee....heeee.... (Explained by Yahya Hamid)
3. Samy said in one of his “ceramah”
(talk):
"Kita akan
bina satu jambatan wuntuk worang2 kampong di sini." Then one pakcik
asked, "Datuk, sini takde sungai, buat apa bina jambatan?" And Samy
gloriously replied, "Kalao takde sungai, kita bina
sungai"
"We will bridge a bridge for the villagers here."
Then one pakcik asked, "Datuk, there is no river here, what for
build a bridge?" And Samy gloriously replied, "If no river, we
build a river". (Translated by Yahya Hamid)
4. Samy's most favourite quote on the
news for the decade is this:
"Toll naik
sikit, banyak marah saya. You worang ingat semua ini toll saya
punyer bapah punya kah!”
"Toll road fee goes up a bit, many scold me. You
all think all this toll roads are my father's ah!" (Translated by
Yahya Hamid)
5. During water crisis:
"Semua
worang diminta jangan membuang aiyerr!"
"Everyone is asked not to 'throw water!'"
(Translated by Yahya Hamid)
In
Malay, "membuang aiyerr (correct spelling is 'air')" means
to pee or to defecate/pass
motion". (Explained
by Yahya Hamid)
6. On social society's
problem:
"Worang2
muda sekarang banyak suka hisap dade"
"Many young people now like to suck breast"
(Translated by Yahya Hamid)
What he should have
said was "dadah" (narcotics) not "dade" (correct spelling 'dada')
which means breast. (Explained by Yahya Hamid)
7. During blood donation's program at
Sungai Siput:
"Marilah
kita semua menderma dare"
"Come on let's all donate virginity"
(Translated by Yahya Hamid)
What he should have
said was "darah" not dare (correct spelling 'dara') which means a
virgin or virginity. (Explained by Yahya Hamid)
8. His welcome speech in most of his
functions:
"Selamat
datang saudara-mara semua" (It should have been
“saudara-saudari”)
"Welcome to all my relatives". (Translated by
Yahya Hamid)
He should have
said "saudara-saudari" which means ladies and gentlemen not
"saudara-mara" which means relatives. (Explained by Yahya
Hamid)
9. During the height of the
Al-Arqam's saga, he said in a press conference:
"Saya
gumbira bahawa didapati tiada pemuda MIC terlibat dalam kes
Arqam"
"I'm happy no MIC youth is involved in Arqam
case". (Translated by Yahya Hamid)
Note: Arqam was a
fanatical Muslim group in Malaysia whereas MIC (Malaysian Indian
Congress) is a political party which he headed whose members are
mostly Hindus. (Explained by Yahya Hamid)
10. At an opening ceremony for a new
building:
"Mempersilakan Datin Paduka Rafidah Aziz naik dari pentas
wuntuk membuka kain"
"I would like to invite Datin Paduka Rafizah
Aziz (Malaysian Ex-Minister, a lady) to the stage to take
off (her) kain (sarong or cloth)". (Translated by Yahya
Hamid)
He should have said
"membuka tirai (curtains)" to draw the curtains (for the
opening ceremony). Not "membuka kain" meaning to take off
cloth/sarong. (Explained by Yahya Hamid)
And of course the
world's greatest joke of all times:
"Kita akan
bina roket pigi matahari." One of the reporter responded, "Tapi
Datuk, matahari terlalu panas untuk didekati." Samy replied, "Itu
tade masalah. Kita hantar waktu malam"
"We will build a rocket to go to the sun." One of
the reporter responded, "But Datuk, the sun is too hot to
approach." Samy replied,"That's not a problem. We send the rocket a
night" (Translated by Yahya Hamid)
There you are folks.
For DS Samy Vellu, we wish you all the best!
