Students' body not
consulted
I WOULD like to clarify a few points raised by Ms Mabel Wong in the
letter, ""Free shuttle bus planned in NUS parking review'' (ST,
July 12).
Firstly, the statement that the university administration had met
the NUS Students' Union in May to obtain feedback on the proposed
review is incorrect.
A meeting was indeed conducted on May 19 to inform, and not
consult, us on the issue of paid parking.
As of that date, a final decision had already been made to proceed
with building the infrastructure for implementing paid
parking.
The reasons were put forward to us in the form of a Powerpoint
presentation by an administrative officer. However, there was
nothing to indicate that there was room for negotiations.
We are, however, keen to work with the university administration to
ensure that the best possible solution be implemented.
As such, Nussu will be holding a forum next Wednesday to solicit
more opinions to enable us to better represent students'
interests.
