This 250 rule was put up by LTA on Taxi companies, not on Taxi
driver.
So, in desparate to get the 250km, companies would have to push
it down the throat of each of their hirer without taking any
responsibility to work together with TDs to achieve the
requirement.
To a taxi company, this LTA 250km rule help nothing but only
increase their cost of operation, cost of admin to monitor the
hirer, cost of having to maintain that discipline, cost of having
to lecture this and that drivers. And when cost increase, profit
will drop, and if you ask the Taxi companies to further work along
with the TD to achieve the target, more cost will be added, cost of
lesson, cost of finding relief for them, cos of helping them to
maintain 250km. So, most companies will not do it, because it is a
high cost for them.
And to minimise such cost of having to admin, train, match and
find...they just choose the simple way out, terminate the contract
and the next one take over. Indirectly, they are using a cane to
get it done, and using cane is not a long term solution to
anything.
