SPP Mr Chiam See Tong's party did not appear on the political
talk on mediacorp tv today. According to mediacop, SPP
turned down the air time talk.
This issue quite trick, I also not very sure. I think it
is because SPP and DPP are separate political parties and political
parties that fielded less than 5 candidates cannot have political
broadcasts. I think SPP fielded 5 candidates (2 in SMCs and
3 in GRCs) while DPP fielded 2 candidates.
SPP I believe may have less people who are fluent in Mandarin so
they chose not to talk in Mandarin. In 2011 election, it was current DPP
Secretary General (Benjamin Pwee) who delivered in Mandarin but he
no longer qualifies because he is now no longer a SPP
member.
However I was at SPP's Potong Pasire rally and heard quite a few
SPP/DPP members delivering in Mandarin including the Chiam couple's
daughter (but again she may not be a SPP member and therefore could
not speak as a party representative ).
SPP however did have political broadcast deliveries in Tamil and
Malay.
Not delivering in
Mandarin means no chance to win Bishan-Toa
Payoh.
