Factory workers are mainly foreigners. Majority are mostly from Malaysia. Singaporean very few. Manufacturing need to have low labour cost and cost effective. Anyway, majority of Singaporeans do not want to do this kind of work especially when the work is shift work, dirty and low paying jobs.

Without the foreign students...most schools, polytechnics and universities will be empty. Many Malaysians especially from JB study in Singapore. About NS....long long story and difficult to make it short story....ended up becoming like an unending story in Singapore....especially for Singaporeans....can't see the end of this story.

That's not true. Do you know how many JC and polytechnic students fail to grab a place in local uni due to the number of foreigners applying? What makes you think that ALL of them are not as capable as foreign talents? It will never be empty. Besides blue collar jobs, Singaporeans must always be given priority in terms of employment and university application.. foreign talents always come second...

There are many blue collar industries...marine industry...shipyard workers...psa workers...construction workers...etcs. All hard work, shift work and work under the sun...Singaporeans...hardly want to work when see the nature of the job....Many Malaysians work in ships and oil rigs building/repairing/renovating industry as an example for this matter.

Well ask PAP they want Singapore to be the Academic hub in this region and if possible in the world per se.....very ambitious country for an anchovy size island.

Marine industry not really.. shipyard workers too because the pay for these jobs are quite decent..ppl who study maritime engineering in NTU would apply for such jobs...Foreign talents should only be granted if there are lack of Singaporeans.. oil rig/repairing involves civil and mechanical engineering from NUS and NTU.. and I am certain that there are Singaporeans

Do you see many Singaporeans working as general workers in the marine industry? I've seen and issued thousands of work permits to the foreign workers within this industry.

Usually the shipyard supervisors and the entire marine industry consist of Singaporeans but the repairing and oil contains quite a couple of foreigners. However, there are still a large pool of Singaporeans around. And almost every other industry(teaching,banking,medicine,dentistry, engineering(besides civil) and etc.) don’t require foreign talent at all.

That is exactly what they trying to promote to Singaporeans. That is good news isn't it. They want to see Singaporeans to be the leaders and bosses for those foreign general workers.

Arjoe, please be specific about what sort of jobs or positions Singaporeans should come first? One reason I resigned from MOM and went into semi-retirement after seeing so many jobs and positions being filled up by foreigners instead of Singaporeans. I realized and see most young generation of Singaporeans nowadays prefer to be served rather than to serve. When Singapore populations was only about 2.5 to 3 million, most of the jobs were filled up by Singaporeans. Now asked yourself these questions? Will Singaporeans want to work as construction workers, general workers/manual labourers, waiters/waitresses, nurses etcs. So be specific please. Thank you.

All jobs except for blue collar jobs because Singaporeans are generally more skillful in this industries except for jobs like construction workers etc. like what you have mentioned because almost no Singaporeans would want to work in those harsh environment..

Not so easy. Singaporeans are generally very choosy in looking for work. Not only because of harsh, dirty, long hours or shift works....salaries is one of the main reason too. Most of the culprit enterprises that breach the labour regulations and laws here are the local SMEs...they will find every loop holes to hire cheaper labours. Most of the MNC companies here do not want to get into trouble with authority here so will try their best to adhere with the rules and regulations here. I feel MOM itself has given too much face to these so called rogue companies that practice such hiring for foreigners who are hungry for jobs here. Hence most of these foreigners are easily abused, bullied, threatened and cheated by their rogue employers. These kind of employers deserved to be fine and send to prison. To send clear message to other rogue employers out there not to play play with labour laws here and MOM.
