Old or New?

i'm considering getting a car for work... so will be driving very often... in this case, it is better to get new car or 2nd hand one?

i'm a brand new driver, even though i got my license more than 4 years ago... Laughing

If u really lack the experience in driving it is better to get a old car first.... get those that is ard 7-8 yrs.... Wink

Since u have to drive so often then you better choose a car that dun drink too much fuel loh.

Advise you to get smaller 2nd hand car first. Once earn big$$ liao, scrap the car then change to 1st hand bigger car Razz

suggestions on wat model to buy?

7-8 yrs cars need to spend alot on maintenance? have been hearing so much abt having to splurge when the car breaks down until i scared... but then again, new car scratch or kena knocked will be damn sim tia... so guess its a trade off....

When I first started working and needed a car, I bought lower CC ones as Fuel Consumption was one important factor. After which, I bought cars which has a year or 2 left. I will drive it, scrap it and get the money back to plough to another car with top up. Like that, I am rolling my money and also my car gets better.

depends on the condition of the car when u purchase it.... most pple just purchase the car without looking at the most important parts, the engine, the brakes and the structure..... for 7-8 yrs u really have to try ur luck.... try to get those with very low milage ones.... really have to depends on how u control the car... read from another thread about some cars being damaged becos of the flood in feb/mar tis year and dat the workshop commented that they got to touch up these cars in order to fetch a better selling price... n oso possible rusting in future..

so, if buying 2nd hand car, better be careful.. cos might b one of those cars dat were parked in the flooded basement carparks..

i might be reconsidering buying a smaller and heaper new car... mayb kia picanto... but dunno whether korean cars are reliable.. views?

actually ah… i think if u get quite a good 7-8 year car, and u dun cheong or play around with your car, i believe there isnt much worries about mantenance…

I always tell people around me... If you can afford it, get a continental car... Safety and comfort are the marques of conti cars...

Focus is definitely the undoubted No.1 in handling in the 1.6 category, justified by numerous magazine reviews... It will be an excellent choice! =)

Korean cars are now less related to problems in reliability, a huge difference as compared to years ago... And as you can see the popularity of Hyundai in Singapore has shot up so much...

The Picanto has been selling well since launch, in fact response has been so good that prices have gone up. But if you're considering Picanto, why not consider Kelisa too? Kelisa is currently cheaper than Picanto, has been around for quite long (but now got new look), and if you're thinking about mods or spares, they're easily available up north!

Main thing i can tell you is, if you're interested, don't expect many features on Korean cars. Some don't even come with ABS or airbags... That's why they're so cheap!

would u know if its true dat ford cars comes with 5 years warranty? what do u mean by agent warranty? if i get from 2nd hand car dealers, would they be the ones to provide warranty for my cars or the agents?

1. big and spacious interior (definitely better then vios!)
2. cvt n steermatic sounds fun!
3. the looks grows on me though initial tot was "i'm not gonna be caught driving dat car!"
cons:
1. no airbag and abs (impt cos will b ferrying baby ard during wkend)

altis
pros
1. higher resale value cos toyota brand
2. expensive looking (vain pot! ahahah)
3. higher confidence level in toyota
4. one of the better value car in 1.6 range
5. shorter waiting time for delivery
cons
1. look like for more matured market (i'm oni 27!), esp interioe beige leather
2. difficulty in parking (so long body)
3. very very very 'dao' (proud) sales people

M2
pros
1. sporty looking
2. seems more suitable for ladies
3. full body kit included in the price

cons
1. over priced
2. low resale value

think will do some research and oso go for test drive b4 deciding which to go for.... Laughing

actually my car shortlisting went like tis....

go for vios cos gd value for money.... the realised it was too cramp at the back... so went to see city which is abt 2-3K more than vios.... but no airbags and ABS... then went to see M2 which is 3-4k more then city.... then tot if i spend 2-3k more, i can drive an altis.... in the end what i'll be forking out will be 7-10k more than my initial intention.... a bit crazy.... but i noticed most of my major purchases work long the same line.... Laughing

but guess i'll still be giving vios a 2nd chance this afternoon when i go for the test drive... cos last wk i was sitting in the passenger seat while my husband did the driving... so i experience wat the rear passengers will be experiencing..... but if i do the drive today n it feels good, guess i'll just be a bit selfish and heck care wat the rear passengers feel.... Very Happy
