perhaps not in this case of yours.
from personal experience, i'm not very close to many of my exes.. a
couple are totally lost contact, two more are in contact but not
close.
even the closest one, i just went to her wedding a couple of weeks
back, but usually we just see each other once or twice a year,
online quite rare, sms even rarer...
i just dun have "close" exes.. not that we hate each other.
maybe in that sense i can't really comment on ur case.
