Christopher Neo, a member of the National
Solidarity Party (NSP), has died of a heart attack at the
age of 49.
Neo contested last year's General Election and was the leader of
the NSP team which contested Jurong GRC.
Neo, along with his team of Abdul
Rasheed, Ong
Beng Soon Elvin, Ong
Hock Siong and Noraini
Yunus, managed 33 per cent of votes, losing to a People's
Action Party team led by Deputy PMTharman
Shanmugaratnam.
Campaign teammate Noraini called Neo her “mentor” and said Neo
wanted to help the newbies like herself in terms of how to campaign
and how to handle voters.
“His death saddens me. We have to cope with his passing,” said
Noraini.
Neo was the leader of NSP’s Jurong GRC contingent and the treasurer
of NSP.
“At the previous Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, he
wanted me to present the financial report on his behalf because he
was visiting his ill mother at the hospital,” said Noraini.
“I was surprised [to hear of his death]. There was no indication
whatsoever and he just died from a heart attack,” she added.
NSP chief Hazel
Poa told Yahoo! Singapore that Noraini
will take over Neo’s responsibilities for the time being. A new
treasurer will be elected in the near future but there is no date
fixed yet.
Neo is survived by his wife and four children.
His wake is
held at Block 55 Marine Terrace from Tuesday to Friday.
