Government could take lead to add public transport capacity

With the limited space, resources and drive for environmentally friendly practices, I support higher costs for car owners (i am one too), especially for passenger vehicles. Though something like raising ERP costs may also have consequences for businesses.

It's time to take this country back for ourselves. If we smaller population and good road design, even ordinary people can afford cars. Instead we have the day and night CTE jam.

But with govt aiming 7M people, soon even those who work hard can't buy cars.

government can think of ways such as ferry transportation from people living in east to west, who has to commute from east to west for example. if you can afford it, why not helicopter transportation if you can pay, like $200 per ride.

Worse is that infrastructure capacities can't meet the demand, can't allow Singaporeans to lead a comfortable lifestyle. I rather the population to stay at 5 million for the next 30 years but with increased infrastructure capacities.

I think Singaporeans should stand up and stand against the increase of population in future. Stop increasing the population if the infrastructures capabilities are unable to give Singaporeans a comfortable lifestyle. Singapore should also look into building multi-tier roads to cater for more vehicles, just like multi storey HDB flats for housing problems. And build guided bus lanes or BRT solely for public buses for faster, more efficient and flexible operations. No wonder Singaporeans do not feel a sense of home in Singapore anymore because basically they almost own nothing here, no land; HDB flats is no under their own name forever and is only regarded as a lease from HDB. If they can't even own a car, then where is a sense of belongng here then? Moreover, who wants to take public transport everytime when they go out with their family outings? A family car is a better and more conducive environment to foster family relationships than a crowded public transport where they can be seperated from each other in a crowded cabin or can't even talk private things, eat and laugh openly, etc. It is all right to use public transport to work everyday but not for my family gatherings.

While buses should have priority, people who aspire to own cars should not be punished. This is after all our country and one man should not take away our enjoyment in life just because one man wants a XX million population.

Especially if his children and children's children stroll into Parliament and have grown up sheltered from our problems.

Unfortunately, we can complain all we want.

They will still target unsustaunable GDP growth so that they can get their 8 month bonuses.

But after all the hoo ha, they will probably not tell you how much bonuses they get next time lest you get pissed off again.

1/2 is everyone's working time is the same w/ students esp ard 0700 - 0730, making situation worst.

I agree with the better environment in a car etc. etc. as already said....... but I think that owning a car is a luxury. If you want something comfortable, nice and luxurious, then be prepared to pay for it. It shouldn't be taken for granted.

So in order to reduce the number of cars on the road, traffic problems, reduce emissions - the government can make owning a car more expensive. At the same time, they should also improve the public transport system (which i think is pretty good already) to ensure access to more areas around the country. That way, the people aren't restricted from visiting places that are normally mainly accessible only by a car.

We dun mind off peak hr bus freq for residential area at 12 - 15 mins..

but they've to ensure it's smooth flow for buses.

On many occasion when i take buses,the bus drivers will not only drive slowly but will stop at every single bus stop,even when there is no commuters at the bus stop.

I remember on one occasion,the bus driver stop at an empty bus stop,open the door n wait for awhile,then close it n then continue the journey.I know the bus driver did this just to meet the stupid time schedule on time.There was a few Caucasian teenage gals on the bus too,after seeing all this,they were like "What the fuk"???? on their face.

You know,sometimes,i think its a good thing to let the PAP government bring in so many foreigners.So that when they return to their countries,they can gossip at how stupid Singapore n our PAP government are.(P.S.Although i hold Singapore IC,i no longer consider myself Singaporean.I am a democrats,an elite,i hold IC n stay in here just to earn money only,i have no obligation to this stupid country.)

Last time I thought only the PRC and Indian come to singapore to make money, now I see even those who were born in Singapore, hold Singapore IC also stay to make money only. So some singaporean are like the PRC and indian, or the PRC and indian are like some singaporean?

Funny how when the new transport minister takes bus or mrt or lrt, someone will take his photos and the news will be very big. I think it is a good acting show
