SINGAPORE: Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, said she will not contest the next General Election in 2016.

She said she will leave it to someone younger as she will be 57 years old.

Speaking at a media conference Wednesday morning, Mrs Lim, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and Transport, said she has served almost 15 years and that's a "reasonable" stretch.

Mrs Lim said she was also surprised by the depth of resentment felt by citizens towards the government, which surfaced during the campaign.

And while the PAP team was expecting a close fight in Aljunied GRC, Mrs Lim said she was still surprised by the outcome.

PAP MPs are really not politicians.

Suffer a defeat and all quit politics. So useless. Seems like they are only in it for the money.

Unlike the opposition, defeat after defeat still come back and fight. Why?

Because opposition are real politicians, PAP MPs are just paid agents of Lee family.

And people know this, that's why they can't be bothered to go to PAP rallies.

PAP as a political party is useless.

if there's anything abt public tpt, I can say there's improvement but it came too late - only last yr.

But the problem is it'll take another good year to resolve because the buses would be stucked in the traffic jams as well unless more bus lanes are created.

But her suggestion over the long distance bus route was one tat didn't go well with the infrastructure that they built

aljunied don't need ministers to serve us. we just need an MP, member of parliament, not military police, to listen to us and bring the issues to the respective government depts, and the parliament.

regret? neh....if this pushed the PAP to think about the people, rather than the MNC or the GDP growth, or if this encourages more capable people to join the opposition, this election already mean something in the singapore politics. No regrets. MM Lee should first be the one to regret for what he said, it was widely acknowledged that he actually contributed greatly to the votes for the opposition.

Dun need minister? Then how on earth a minister is apppointed? Unless you telling me you want to follow M'sia, defeated BN candidates can still fill some portfolio post.

A balance has to be struck. The way you put it is, we dun need MNCs then ppl no job, next thing ppl throw out the govt.

That's why I say Singaporeans aren't ready to take reponsbility yet.

MP elect means elected to be MP but not yet become MP. Parliament haven't convened, wait 4-5 months.

What I am trying to say is that since it is the people elect him/her to be their mp, he/she should serve his/her people wholeheartly. Not what 'redWhite' has posted.

Ministers are appointed from the elected MP, but not all MP will be appointed ministers. You elect MP to serve the constituency, not to become ministers!!

Yes, a balance has to be struck, but consideration for citizens cannot always come after MNC. MNC brings jobs, but it is in Singapore they make money, otherwise why don't they just go to malaysia?

PM already said - the major ministerial posts are finance and defence (for the obvious reasons). The rest of the ministerial posts, if helmed by weaker candidates, can be firmed up within the cabinet's framework of groupthink.

Interesting enough (as someone from another forum pointed out), prior to voting, VB denied there is groupthink within the cabinet.

But GY said he had been vocalising about the people's dissatisfaction as far back as ten years ago. He claimed that his voice was a minority within the cabinet, giving us the impression that the majority didn't agreed with him on this issue. But GY went along with the rest - a clear indication of groupthink.

There is no groupthink in the sense of them all thinking alike. But there is groupthink in the sense of them forming consensus among themselves and displaying a united front for the public.

VB was very cunning in giving us the impression that because there is no 'groupthink', views and opinions were actively sought and thoroughly scrutinised. If it's so, they won't be so clueless about the people's feeling.

I tend to agree with GY that within the cabinet, it's majority voices vs minority voices. He is out of both parliament and cabinet now - no need to be cautious with his words anymore.
