They give you $9000, you fear they would take back $18000. But think about it, they are already taking from you $20,000 (if you are paying that much taxes of any kind), now they give you back $9000, take it as a bonus.

Be happy when you are given money, just don't sell yourself for it, no reason you should fear this or that.

Someone commented it's an irony. Those who spent 2.5 hrs in the army and still have not completed paying their education loan are not getting any $ to help pay for the sch fees.

Those who spent 2 yrs in the army are getting the $3k.

Those in the 50s spent 2 1/2 yrs serving NS, got lousy pay, ate food cooked by the lousy NS cook, wore heavy WW2 helmet, engineer were cheap labour carrying bridge parts, arti developed backache carrying 120 mm mortar, some ORD kena 13 years reservist cycle.

and now they also get $0......

think they should ask government for back pay and hardship allowance.

Notice this forum have alot of youngster......so I've gone thru other forums and like to share some of their responses for this forum as references. So here goes....

Thank-you PM for giving the big bonus to NSmen. As a person who is fast approaching 50, I don't need the S9k as urgently as finding a good stable job. I did not mention salary because I can accept the same lower salary as FT, and put in equally long hours as FT for the employers. But, does PM you know the ground situation is that local employers are shunting many middle age people who are equally qualified as any new FTs, and maybe have more real-life experiences than many new FTs. This is the bleak condition of job that post 40-years old singaporeans are facing that no amount of money can compensate.

this is a National policy speech. Just as this forum has shown all the other issues have been drown by the $$$ 9K. $$$$ ...

Everyone in town is talking you think our women don't feel "unfair" that they were single out.

Its human nature, Women too do not want to be left out....And by the way they VOTE.

And by the way, when you go for reservist your wife worried at home they go thru reservist in their heart and mind wondering why husband has to disappear for 2 weeks.....!!

Then again, I'm not the govt. The govt want to give me the $$, I just take.

i want to ask the garment ,what about those lost 1 hand or 1 leg one, i'm sure fellow NS man sure come a cross fellow friends and buddy who had serious injury or even become handicap due to NS duty, how is mindef or garment going to compensate them

Then i wonder how the older generation feels lol. They gave a lot of their votes to the PAP and they built this country over the years. These very same people in their 40s-60s have difficulty competing with foreigners for employment, being told to work till they die and not even a measly $9000. Well, not that it would mean a lot to them but still, the thought of being left out.....
