From
2002 to 2008, Singapore total population
increased by 16% (4.14 million to 4.84
million),GDP growth of 62% (S $ 1,582 million to 2,576
million Current Market Prices).
However, the
sale of potable water is almost the same
(daily
1,250,000, vs 1,260,000 cubic meters! ) !
The PUB press release is just like a encrypted message.
In the recent one issued on the first day of SIWW, it said, among
other things,
hh
As the population and economy continues to grow,
PUB expects the water demand to double in the next 50 years,
with about 70% of the demand coming from the non-domestic sector,
and domestic consumption making up the other 30%.
By 2060, Singapore plans to triple the current NEWater capacity so
that NEWater can meet 50% of its future water demand. There are
also plans to ramp up desalination capacity by almost 10 times so that
desalinated water will meet at least 30% of its water demand in the
long term.

28-Jun-2010Long-term water plans released in new PUB publication
today
Desalination
target increases by 10 times reveal the secret
1.1 Assume desalinated water will meet 30% of its
water demand in the long term
the current desalination capacity is 1,360,000 m3.
Then in 2060, SG water demand @@is 1,360,000 m3 / 0.30=
4,500,000 m3.
In 2060,Domestic consumption 30%=1,350,000 m3 per day
Currently,domestics water is 760,000 m3 per day/ 155 liters per
day per capita,=4.9 million population.( pl read Key Environmental Statistics I list below for
figures)
Therefore, if my assumption is correct, then in 2060,
population would be 1,350,000 m3/ 147 liters per day per
capita%%
=9,200,000 !
%%( domestic water consumption 147 liters per day per capita is
PUB 's target in 2020)
Ok u will say what if meet 35%.
1.2 Assume desalinated water will meet 35% of its
water demand in the long term
Then in 2060, SG water demand @@is 1,360,000 m3 / 0.35=
3,900,000 m3.
In 2060,Domestic 30%=1,170,000 m3 per day
population would be 1,170,000 m3/ 147 liters per day per
capita%%
=7,950,000 !
1.3 Assume desalinated water will meet 40% of its
water demand in the long term
Then in 2060, SG water demand @@is 1,360,000 m3 / 0.40=
3,400,000 m3.
In 2060,Domestic 30%=1,020,000 m3 per day
population would be 1,020,000 m3/ 147 liters per day per
capita%%
=6,930,000 !
@@ water
demand,In my view there are two types,
http://app.mewr.gov.sg/web/Contents/Contents.aspx?ContId=682
1. One is the total sale volumes of all types of water, and
another type is just the sale of potable water.I think when PUB say
"PUB expects the water demand to double in the next 50
years,",PUB refer to type 2,ie PUB refer only to potable
water.
Type 1--all types of waters ie
A. potable water-- Domestic and - Non-domestic
B. NEWater
C. Industrial water
