Loh Meng Hai, the grassroots leader of Holland-Bukit Timah GRC
who hanged himself on Monday was supposed to go to CPIB for
questioning on the same day.
Mr Loh reportedly hanged himself in the storeroom of his
house after a quarrel with fellow committee members of Bukit
Timah Beauty World Merchant Association.
According to committee members interviewed by Chinese daily
Lianhe Wanbao, Mr Loh was questioned by a lawyer present at its AGM
on seven irregularities in its accounts including the selection
process of a tender and the amount of commission given to the
association.
Mr Loh has been an active grassroots leader
in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC for the last 40 years. He was
awarded PBM in 2002 and BBM in 2007.
His untimely death shocked many in the community who had worked
together with him. Neither his family nor his close associates are
aware of him currently being under investigation by CPIB.
Mr Loh is also the treasurer of Bukit Timah CCMC. A wreath from
Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State, Ministry of Community
Development, Youth and Sports and MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC
was noticed at his wake.
