Need advices for buying the toyota altis

I want to buy the toyota altis 1.6 very much. but some people say its good and some say no... cos its assemble in thailand. well i really need some advices. has any altis owner discover some bad points about the altis so far?? Question

Made in Thailand doesn't mean that the quality is bad. I have been driving Altis since 8th Jan 04, so far so good. The bad pt so far is the HU is ugly and sound quality isn't great. The 14-inch rim is a bit small for Altis body. Other than that, the ride is good.
Test-drive the Altis yourself to feel/see whether this car is up to your expectations. At the end of the day, you are the one driving.

I've test driven it but not impressed enough to buy it. Reasons:
1. Rear seats cannot fold down for 1.6 litre model. I expect this to be standard feature.
2. External looks like an out-of-production Corolla. No dominance. Rear lamps looks like a cheap Korean car. If not for the model plate "Altis" I will not be able to identify it. The VIOS looks far better.
3. These bad points are not noticeable because ithe interior is dressed up with fancy plastic wood panelling, MP3 player, airbags and leather seats. Very clever.

Conclusion: It's an over-hype, over-advertised car. Suitable for herd-instinct Singaporeans who blindly follow the Toyota brand.

In the end, I booked a Honda City instead.

Agree on Point 1, even my previous G8 Xli had foldable rear seats, not that I actually needed it Razz

As for point 2, looks are really very subjective, one man's meat is another's poison Smile Some might like the lights while others hate it. No offence, but I personally dislike the Honda City's rear.

As for the interior, the woodgrain does not feel classy to me, Audio HU looks really bad, the rest are ok I felt.

Hi all,

I had friends who use both Honda city and Toyota corolla, and we had a common goal in mind, the car able to "perform" in Malaysia, not in racing but able to withstand the long driving conditions.

Honda city, (not the latest ver.) becomes very "noisy" after a year over as compare to Toyota and Honda civic (Japan made) which also use to "cheong" Malaysia.

And again, Toyota altis been launch in Malaysia since 2001 and if you read their forum, overall rating are good.

Back to SG, road are not so tuff in Malaysia, be a Happy Pay Master, pay for wat you like, ie, fog lamp design, tail light, engine sounds, door handle, etc, etc.

Hope that my view will help you better to decide like I appreciate my friends who have helped me in the pass. Mr. Green

City got a special folding rear seat. I like this ldea for create more space.

But the way, this rear seat design raised my concern. The rear seat is only supported by some metal bars. As time go by, whether will the joint at the metal bars creating 'cracking noise'?

Altises and Citys serve 2 purposes as far as im concerned. 1) provide cheap affordable car ownership, so that people may have the freedom that comes with owning a car instead of taking public transport.
2) mass seller for their respective brand names, help them increase profits.

as for good or bad, nothing really to say.how much do u seriously expect for a car with such a low price? as long as it doesn't give many problems, it should be ok. esp if your budget's tight.

all these cars, city, vios, altis, all don't have "good" pickup. if u need a car to commute, this is a negligible factor

pickup is relative. i think city, vios, altis, civic all hv good pickup compared to their peers. tt's what i meant by good or no good. for me, anything below 12 secs to reach 100km/h is considered acceptable in spore context.

my benchmark is at least 10. dun forget in singapore accel which is more impt, becos of the frequent stop start driving u have to do.
these cars are meant to do what they do. ferry ppl around, at an affordable rate. lets not start waxing lyrical here

(1) as i said, i was comparing with theirs peers; kelisa is in a different class.
(2) even for these "affordable" cars as you call it, there is a wide range of pickups from 10 - 15 secs. your <10 is in a diff price range la.
