Rainforest will only disappear by 40 years time, NOT the human race! We aint gonna disappear just because the rainforest had been cut down, and the land cleared for more efficient uses

In any case, the 40 year figure are only stats. You and I should by know the value of stats by now and how much of a value it stands. However rest assured, mankind must always ensure sustainable developement and such stats ONLY serves as a warning to be more ecologically minded.

What can be destroyed, can be rebuild and replace, but once you and I are gone, it is forever. Human lives MUST always come first. So quit your worry and make sure you don't spend all your money now and become a pauper in 40 yrs time, cos humanity will still continue to live and prosper then.

PS: Is there any scientific basis to your claim that rainforests produces oxygen, let alone produces oxygen for the world? Or would you prefer to change 'rainforest' to marine algae instead responsible for Earth's oxygen?

Currently there are no known industrial of mass production of clean O2.....so what other source do you think you are breathing from at this moment?

it is sad to realise that all of us, human race, know that our economic systems WILL lead us to self-destruction and yet all of us cannot avoid this destiny. Because we rely on our economic systems for jobs to sustain our living. So we rely on economic systems for a living and this economic systems will lead us to self-destruction. What an irony!!

The immense irony would that even if the number of years left turn out to be too pessimistic but that if everyone adopted your mentality we are still going to be screwed.

Pessimisim is unhealthy. So too is complacency.

So the best is to stick to facts and let one institute an 'informed' mind as he/she goes about daily grind.

70% of Earth's oxygen comes from marine algae as well as the absorbtion of CO2. And 70% of earth is covered with water (earth's surface level anyway).

Since the 60s, Nasa had been involved in studies and debates on how to 'terraform'/ geo-engineer other planets such as Venus ( Carl Sagan) and Mars ( Levine/Fogg) to make it habitable for human life. Algae - the seeds of life - is one of the techniques that would be used - for it grows quickly under the harshest conditions. Within decades, at least Mars would become habitable with an Earth-like atmosphere.

It is expensive, but rather than to do it on a planetary scale, smaller structures can be constructed in space which a significant portion of humanity can exist using such methods.

As for Earth, the end of total humanity is not near, at least not yet, even for the most catalysmic calamity. So live and love to your fullest, be responsible, we aint gonna die yet.

with the death of the rainforest in 40 years, a lot of land living things will perish as food will become so scarce. the elimination of earth's major oxygen producer would distort air composition and suffocate man kind. without food, oxygen breathing is useless.

Dun worry lah, you dun another 40yo, maybe i do, but I am not worry, so why you worry?? Look, CO2 is also make of oxygen, the only chemistry needed is to break the C from the O2 and viola!!, we got oxygen. We are working on it. I think in a few years time, there will be a break thru, in the meantime, be cool.
