How to sleep on beach now? So many coast guards looking for illegal immigrants. I think better put them to check for foreign trash coming through Changi Airoprt.

From what i know, homeless eldery will be sent to be cared for by homes. The children of the eldery, if any, have to be responsible for the welfare of the eldery by law.

I am not sure if the neighbourhood police is taking care of this or wonder is it within their job scope to do so.

Those elderly homes are no different from concentration camps. I went to one before.. the old people are just there.. waiting to die.

So much different from the senior communities in USA.

Why can't we just provide the elderly a place to live their golden years ?

It is not their job scope. But still they will take care of it. From personal experience, sometimes it is just a drunked guy who went to the wrong place and decide to sleep there. Sometimes it is eldery who have "runaway" to have fun, but got lost, and forgot what they are doing...

For those that really need help, they will be refered to homes.

Struggling is bad. But they are your parents, and it is only right that the children take care of the parents. I have no solution for the struggling childrens.

But let me ask you a very practical question.

When you are old.. do you expect your children to feed you while they go hungry?

I believe old people should be given the chance and infrastructure to be independent.

The children are there for the support, but expecting to rely on them 100% is not practical at all.

And what about the grandchildren ?

If you have children.. do you really want to be a burden to them ?

Many times.. I imagine myself growing old in Singapore.. wat kind of life will I be living ?

In singapore, the government idea is FORCE you to save money and buy annunities. Good or bad policy, you can debate. but that is how they plan to care for all the eldery in the future.

I can't solve social problems.

But yes, I think struggling children should still care for their parents. that is my opinion.

But as a parent, i would not want to burden my children. That is also my opinion.

then when JB's land cost goes up.. then what.. relocation again ?

If it's the land they say is too precious to build assisted living or senior communities.

Then I must ask.. what is the true cost of land to the gahmen ? Zero.

What they are giving up is merely "opportunity costs".

I think Singaporeans can afford that.
