Singapore is no exception in the use of torture. Psychological torture is deemed as torture by the UN too. People need to realize the value of each man that each man is created as equal and his basic rights should be preserved even to non-citizen living under a foreign country law should be given the protection of the law just like everybody else.

Preferential treatment in law will only serve to undermine rule of law bearing fruit to repression, oppression, abolishment of liberties, state sanctioned unlawlessness and injustice. Not a treat of any civic nation.

I would rather be in a country with a 15 century outlook but a 21st century mindset than a 21st century outlook but a 15 century mindset.

If i'm not wrong the use of torture is present only in the Bush administration so this is an exception due to his lousy leadership

By the way If the use of Torture is considered a hideous shameful crime because of the violation of human rights involved don't you think our own leaders at least rival the torturers in criminal status?

I mean from a humans rights perspective, Our country leaders have also violated human rights on a national scale, so how different are they from the torturers elsewhere

Frankly, nothing beat the American when it comes to human rights violation. The torture at Guantanamo is just the tip of the icerberg. American has fought more wars than any other country in the history of mankind. And a sigificant number of these wars have nothing to do with national security or about protecting American interests. They are arming insurgents and fighting wars around the world to effect regime change and to push their ideology of democracy (eg, Vietnam war, Iraq war, Bay of Pig invasion, etc).

The result is thousands and thousands of innocent civillians killed for the sake of "freedom" - as defined by American politicians. Even today, there are civilians killed on a daily basis in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. It is about time that the American president be prosecuted for war crimes and for crimes against humanity.

yea Restriction of freedom of speech, freedom of press, political rights all those. THese are not issues that stand out when compared with torturing unfortunately but this doesnt mean that they are in any way less important

Wao you caught me offguard i'm not sure how human rights applies to war, I think in war different rules are at play (maybe humanitarian laws?) i was refering to human rights in peace times.

But even if what u said is true and america is a big monster it still doesnt contradict what i said about Singapore being equally criminal

Just a correction of that point. If you're considering the history of mankind, Genghis Khan alone fought more wars than all of America ever did. Dont forget Rome, Carthage, Athens, Sparta, Venice, England, France, Prussia, Persia, Russia, China, Spain, India, the Aztecs, Greece, Macedonia
