Sadly, the honest intellect of Ho and Mahbubani were
both hamstrung and compromised by their cautious political
conciousness to the political reality in Singapore.
Their brave honesty only extended to the careful
speculation that the PAP will possibly split into two when MM
is no longer in the picture; and this idea was quickly
repaired by their reversal with a statement that there
are current attempts to create a class of Senior Party
Members to oversee the PAP's future leadership selection.
Can we believe the Chairman of Singapore's only broadcast media
who will ignore the various issues concerning
Singapore's print and broadcast media - that were picked
up by the European Commission in a report on
Singapore's laws governing our ‘Freedom of Expressions and The Media in Singapore’
?
Should Singaporeans question the credibility in the
statements made when Ho had personally experienced the weight
of Singapore's ISA but now become a straight faced spokesman for
the Singapore Government ?
He was once an activist reporter jailed in 1979 under
Singapore's ISA for writing an uncomplimentary feature
article that rubbed the Singapore Government on the wrong
side; and his report was published in the now defunct Far
East Economic Review.
If he did not have an influential father who owns the UIC
Group of Companies with links to the various Government
establishment - the young man would have been rotting longer then
the seven months he had experienced.
Like Prof Tommy Koh, Mahbubani chosen path brought him out of
Singapore's reality during his long period stationed as
Singapore's Representative at the United Nation.
Both Prof Tommy Koh and Mahbubani are aware of the politics
in Singapore, but prefer to be less forthright in stating
the political reality in Singapore and simply tow the
Government line and to be in their service.
It is such a waste that their intellectual talents were not
put to better use in the service of Singaporeans needing clear
thinking and strong minded persons to represent us in the 21st
Century.
