cwill SG The virus that has caused the recent outbreak of atypical pneumonia. Known as a coronavirus,it is spread through droplets and can also survive for up to a few hours outside the human body. The World Health Organisation has congratulated the University on its success. The Centres for Disease Control & Prevention based in Atlanta hasindependently confirmed that coronavirus is the source. Now that the source is known, it will be easier for drug researchers to find ways to treat the disease and kill the virus. Responding to a query from the press as to the likely origin of the coronavirus, Prof Peiris said it probably originated in animals. However,he later said there were no signs that domestic pets were carriers and were not a cause for worry.
cwill SG The best prevention method, the researchers say, is to constantly wash your hands. A mask, by itself, is not foolproof. The coronavirus is spread through droplets - the vapour that sprays from our noses when we sneeze and our mouths when we cough. It can also live outside the body for up to an hour or so. A person who has coughed into his hand and then touches a doorbell may leave the virus for the next person. If that person touches the doorbell and then rubs his eyes, nose or mouth, he risks coming down with coronavirus pneumonia.
cwill SG There is only one way to prevent the spread viz to instil a sense of civic responsibility for any one who contracted influenza...the individual must cover his mouth whenever he coughs or blow his nose, even a piece of tissue paper is effective in preventing 90% of droplets from getting into the atmosphere. The person has to ensure that he /she does not cough directly into the face of another. No direct face to face contact on talking. Like any virus that survive in droplets, SARS virus will not survive more than a few minutes on leaving the human mouth. All one needs to do is to prevent it from getting into the atmosphere. Cover the mouth and nose for the one coughing. If you are near any body coughing or sneezing you need to be at least a metre away. Offer him tissue and shame him into covering up. Open air is better. The person coughing must stay indoors or cover at all time.
cwill SG The best way to defend against SARS is to strengthen your own immunity system. A strong and effective immunity defense requires: HEALTHY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL STATES * Keep yourself as joyful as possible and do not focus on worries. * Follow a balanced diet and take sufficient fluid, say around 1.5litres to 2 litres per day. * Take yellow and green vegetables and include at least an orange, or an apple, or a Kiwi, or any other fruits that you prefer every day. * Exercise at least 3 times a week and each should last for 30 to 45 mintues. Exercise means activities that will cause some challenge to your physical state and produce moderate sweating. A good example is running at 3.5 to 4.5 miles/hour for 30 minutes or playing an hour's game of tennis or badminton. * Unless absolutely necessary, do not work extra long hours. * Sleep for at least 7 hours. * Avoid visiting hospital if possible. * Avoid going to crowded areas and keep your stay short if you have to visit restaurant, cinema, supermarket, etc. * Maintain good ventilation at home and working place. SARS is now a worldwide health threat. The best defense is our own body. Keep your mental and physical state in good shape and you should be able to protect yourself.
cwill SG Lastest Finding University's Department of Microbiology. Chief of Virology Malik Peiris and department head have identified that Alcohol can kill the virus. So lets start intoxicate ourselves with as much of Alcohol as we can, so we're safe and sound form the virus. Party Time....Lets us drink to our "Health"
cwill SG Does the SARS outbreak show how mentally backward China still is? They may have modern buildings and other facades of prosperity but when something big happens, they keep mum until the issue gets out of hand. Now the rest of the world has to wipe China’s smelly arse.
