Race and Nationality ?

rockfire SG

Chinese are also categorized too. In Thailand, your nationality can be Thai, but your race can be Chinese and hence Thai-Chinese.

GOD is the one who chose our race.

You are categorized into the race you belongs to based on your parent's race. If one of your parent is Indian, and the other is Chinese, then you're Indian-Chinese or Chinese-Indian.

Just don't mix up Nationality and Race, they are different groups. But Chinese is used in Nationality and Race coincidentally.

Agree with u 70%, I don't believe in coincidental. There are reasons behind something we do. That why we do it

rockfire SG

Bumiputera or Bumiputra is a Malay political term widely used in Malaysia, embracing ethnic Malays, Javanese, Bugis, Minang and occasionally other indigenous ethnic groups such as the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia and the tribal peoples in Sabah and Sarawak. This term comes from the Sanskrit word Bhumiputra, which can be translated literally as "son of earth" (bhumi= earth, putra=son) or son of the soil.

If u are talking about malaysia, their ID don't stated race Bumiputra..correct me if i am wrong.

I have seen china workers work permit it state Nationality Chinese.

Also from Wiki:

The concept is coined by Tunku Abdul Rahman. A number of ethnic groups collectively become bumiputras. It has become a race. It does not have to be stated in identity cards. It's in the constitution.

The reason is to prevent the minority non-natives from controlling the country's economy.

What's wrong with nationality Chinese for PRC workers? They are Chinese, aren't they? I have not yet seen any PRC workers from other minor ethnic groups except the Hans.

Nobody can help you if you don't believe in coincidental.

Maybe you want to ask Deng Xiaoping and Mao Zedong?

It's just a label, I wouldn't worry too much into it.

Don't talk nonsense. Where can you find PURE HAN people in China and the world nowadays?

During the Qing Dynasty, the Manchurians already liberated China and dignified all the Chinese women with their babies.

Check your family tree lor, you might be the descendants of Yelu Qi, but I'm the descendants of Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv.

Who's talking nonsense?

Did I say pure? So, no Manchu women married Han men?

What's the population of the Manchus? Is Manchu language an Official language in China? It's the Manchus who has assimilated with the Hans, not the other way round.

I have a suggestion, why not call everybody SIngaporean and forget about putting the race in the ID just like the Thais. You can call yourself a SIngh ,Malay ,Chinese or anything at home but the moment you meet other people outside you become one with them.

I totally agree, do away with race in the ID and just call ourselves Singaporeans. There is no need to differentiate by race.

kramnave SG

That is true, could be part of a PAP regime's agenda of destroying the chinese dialects groups in Singapore.

Indian, malay groups, they divide them up, keep them divided, while chinese they may want to destroy all dialect groups and unite them into one solid solid group.

A futile effort if there is indeed such a policy.

You have to go ask Lee Kuan Yew.

It's all about cohesion and communication. Like you are communicating in English in this forum and not your dialect.

then what about the Mongol?? just wondering why all of us make a big fuss over the race column in our IC, we should be proud of our own race, otherwise you are a total disgrace.

It means the HAN people that you're looking for, does not exists in this world anymore.

If you not looking for pure Han...then why you use the word Hans people? You don't know how to use the word Chinese Nationals is it?

All of them already become rojak descendants....unlike me, descendant of Yang Guo and Xiao Long nv.

Short Ninja SG

I dont think that the 21st century Singaporeans are ethnocentric people. It was a good thing to get rid of the dialect groups so as to make the Chinese feel more unified and might be good for the Indians too,as for the Malays they don't seem to have a racial identity problem

How do you define getting rid of dialect groups for the Chinese?
