Penal Code can deal with crimes ,eg defamation, committed outside SG and
there
is no 6 month time ban for prosecution like in Sedition Act.
Nair challenged LEE to sue him for defamation.
He is damn right, partly. But not civil suit!!
Besides 3 charges i guess above,he will be most probably charged
under
''Defamation.
499. Whoever, by words either spoken or intended
to be read, or by signs, or by visible representations, makes or
publishes any imputation concerning any person, intending to harm,
or knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will
harm, the reputation of such person, is said, except in the cases
hereinafter excepted, to defame that person.
.........
Explanation 4.No imputation is said to harm a person’s
reputation, unless that imputation directly or indirectly, in the
estimation of others, lowers the moral or intellectual character of
that person, or lowers the character of that person in respect of
his calling, or lowers the credit of that person, or causes it to
be believed that the body of that person is in a loathsome state,
or in a state generally considered as disgraceful.''
Reasons
There is a 6 month time ban for prosecution under Sedition
Act.
SG has been ruled by laws for 49 years under PAP,isn't it?
So,how to deal with his blogs beyond 6 months time ban and
committed
in US?
Penal Code is the answer, even he committed outside SG!!
''Punishment of offences committed beyond, but which by
law may be tried within Singapore.
3. Any person liable by law to be tried for an
offence committed beyond the limits
of Singapore, shall be dealt with according to the
provisions of this Code for any act committed beyond Singapore, in
the same manner as if such act had been committed within
Singapore.''
SG gavaman
should clarify news incorrent
MITA shall clarify when Nair renounced his SG citizenship.

"The Government Accountability Project (GAP) is a 30-year-old
nonprofit public interest group that promotes government and
corporate accountability by advancing occupational free speech,
defending whistleblowers, and empowering citizen activists."
No, it's not a clothing store.......
And........
"The law of defamation is supposed to protect people's
reputations from unfair attack. In practice its main effect is to
hinder free speech and protect powerful people from
scrutiny."- From Bryan Martin's website.
