There is little
justification for GRC in the context of advancement to a more
mature democracy which will motivate every citizen to work together
with a more accountable governing party - through participation of
every citizen in selecting the best individuals to form the most
accountable government for the best of the country.
If GRC must be maintained, for racial harmony in recognizing the
above-mentioned democratic principle, which is universally
recognized today as the most effective system of government then
GRC if adopted should be symbolic and not used as an excuse to
tweak the voting system to favor the incumbent through bending the
constitution or electoral boundaries or group entrenchment devices
and it should be balanced and not be island-wide.
Cut down GRC drastically to four zones to represent our culture to
accommodate minority races to have representatives in parliament.
In all other areas let the minority candidates fight on their own
merit which they need to have if they want to represent their
minority races as majority race candidates do not have the
privilege to be elected if they just enter the ticket of election
except too by their own personal qualities and appeal to
voters.
Let us grow up and let people have a fair chance to elect the kind
of leaders they want openly without being controlled or constrained
by political tweaking of the constitutional right to elect their
best individual candidates of any race in any area.
If a minority race is elected by the majority race like Obama in US
that will show we have naturally matured politically as a society.
Cooking of GRC is narrow-minded and selfish and should be disbanded
or at most tempered to prevent the whole country's being controlled
by any incumbent single party.
Rejected, reason, remove of GRC will incurrs higher costs
which will ultimate put on to the citizens who are suffering now.
And also, more MPs to pay, we should therefore, remain
conservative and get the economic of scale by grouping satelite
town to reduce cost and confusion.
We should not compare our politic with the likes of US or other
countries, it a different game in each country. eg the
minority in a small US town is already more than the
singaporeans here. So it is a different ball game.
And furthermore, in cutting down to each individual minority
group will increase disunity and non belonging, so let us keep up
with our harmonious relationship among us and stop the division of
citizens, thank you.
