WITH the merger of the Social Development Unit (SDU) and Social
Development Service (SDS) into the Social Development Network (SDN)
and the privatisation of events to accredited agencies, I am
wondering if it is an initiative to encourage singles to get
hitched or to deter them?
As a single, I was daunted by the high fees charged by the
accredited agencies as compared to the reasonable prices
before.
It seems to me that the regulation of prices and service levels
need to be relooked or tightened.
An event can easily cost $40, be it a movie date, dinner or high
tea. Not many can afford to spend that much, especially those with
low income looking for a soul mate. Why aren't prices subsidised to
boost the marriage rate?
