Lancer vs Corolla vs Civic

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and wonder if I could get some advice from some of you who are more experienced in cars. I'm thinking of getting either a new Lancer or a corolla 1.5 or a civic vti. Civic is slightly more expensive and further more there is a significant powercut from the previous model thus I might want to root that option out unless you guys think otherwise.

As for Corolla, there are no more 1.6 left. My question is whether there's a big difference in terms of performance between 1.5 and 1.6 (anyone drives 1.5 corolla?) and whether is it ok to get a corolla 1.5?

For Lancer, I think the sports edition one looks nice but I have no idea about the performance, durability, maintenance cost etc. Generally, is it true that a toyota corolla outruns a lancer? Would appreciate it if someone can help me make a more informed choice. Wink

lancer sucks. Can never consider it. You cannot buy a mit car if it is less than 2000cc. Cos Galant is good....but lancer sucks. Used old technology engine, GLXi. This is a 95 engine used in the previous 2 model.

Honda is still very powerful and very good. It seems that the new engine, VTec-I is more fuel economy than Toyota Corolla. I am driving Corolla but I advice you to buy a Honda if you can cos the next batch of Corolla will be make in Thailand instead of Japan.

Thanks for the reply. I went to Kah Motors the other day and the attitude of the SE sucks totally. There were saying they got no more stocks and there will be a new facelift (slightly changing the front lights and bumper area) and that will cost $2000 more. When asked if I could see how it looks like, she say she doesn't have any and told me to try the website, i searched the SG, US website and saw nothing.

Furthermore, if I am not wrong, honda cut civic vti's power to 110 hp now which is considerably lower than the previous vti models. That means a probably lower performance + higher insurance. I tried the Mit lancer sports and (in my opinion) torque wasn't there and a lot of wind noise from the interior. Tested corolla and however seems muchhhhhhh quieter and a little bit more torque. Chances is I might go for a corolla 1.5 since they got no more 1.6 but then again they got this new altis coming and I really wonder how it compares to the japan made in terms of quality and features. (and which one to go for heh)

I use to drive honda bike and the service centre sux too.
Image i just want to buy a small plastic for my 1100cc bike. Guess
what, i have to stand there and wait for the guy to check. Can't believe that they need 1 hr to check 1 small little plastic.

Another incident is that i went to the show room to see the bikes and because i wear bermudes and T the sales personne don't even bother to entertaint me but when a guy wear office outfit he immediately went to serve him.. aaaarrrggggg... Mad

I do heard from people that honda service not good. Any honda owner can verify this.

Thinking getting a car, the after sale is also important. I heard from my colleage toyota after sale also not that good..... how true i dunno but was told nissian one not bad.

I am thinking of getting a car too and my mind got either lancer or corolla. Civic too expensive for me, sunny looks i dun like. Lancer after much consideration cos the more i see the car the more it doesn't look nice to me, inside space oso a bit small and the rear brake is drum type. So left corolla, engine vvti, inside space not bad and all 4 brakes are disc type. i think get a 1.5 is enuff, after all the car is for travelling from point A to point B. i also tot of 1000cc car but the power is not there is carry too many passengers.

Have you consider Civic and Vios?

City you mean? Accordingly to my friend, City looks like cockroach (no flamming pls cos i didn't say it heh). Vios is overall not a bad choice in terms of power and looks but i feel its a bit too squeezy if u wanna take 4 passenger (back guy not much legroom) Anyway dude, I think they got no more japan made corolla for you. Last I heard they got some 1.5 xli stock left. The rest will be coming in from thailand (1.6 and 1.8 1st week of december or so) and they will be called Altis. The 1.5 will be totally replaced by Vios. Actually the Altis seems nice, anyone getting an Altis?

Yes, Honda power is not as before but if you compared it with Lancer and Sunny, the smoothness and response is still there.

For me, if given a choice of these few cars, I will still go for the civic. Afterall, its still a Vti engine.

Sat in sunny (latest model) and drove in the Lancer (latest model once before, and I can tell you frankly that their 1.6l is still slightly below the performance of a 1.5l Vti engine.

Once again, no offence to all sunny and lancer drivers, but its what I personally feel. Hope these helps.

My brother own a Toyota Vios(A)

Vios = slient , smooth engine , looks good . The boot is damn big i must say for a 1.5l but the rear passanger legroom is just opposite .

Petrol usage is ard 14km per litre of shell98.

So overall i think it's a good car for those light right foot driver

I saw the Altis on the road but is malaysia plate. I was inside the bus then saw this car front corolla, inside corolla but when i see the rear completely different but the name toyota corolla altis then see the plate is from malaysia. hm... malaysia already import the altis?

I must say toyota and honda se attitude is very bad. they give me the impression that we dun really interested in selling a 1.5 or 1.6 cars to you. However, I guess if you bring your father along and view a 2.0 car, the attitude will be a 180 change.

No offence but sunny is not fuel economy. my 1.5 corolla auto half tank about 300km but my friend 1.6 sunny full tank around 400km

my other friend driving suzuki liana claims 400km for half tank. but i dun like the design.....and is abit small

Hey why not go test drive all shorts of car first before making any payment ... i say buy the 2001 corolla manual is the best ... best also get 1yr old car ...

Think long run,

Civic = own before, starts giving problems with engine after 3 yrs

Lancer = Lan cer (lousy car) Tells it all ... brakes problem then fan belt problem then transmission problem ... etc after 2yr (uncle driving it, the boxy one)

Corolla = Value for money, manual, got power, big space, comfortable, ah pek look (but heck its alright), the only - point is when you start revving the engine high, the next time you see your idle goes high too ...

But in the end ... it is up to you to decide what car you want Very Happy
