SINGAPORE, Jan 25 - Shares of Straits Trading rose as much as 7 percent to S$6.11 with 40,000 shares traded on hopes of a bidding war between Tecity group and the family that owns the Overseas-Chinese Banking Corp .

The Lee family, which controls OCBC, made a $1.3 billion counterbid for the commodities and property firm on Thursday. They offered S$5.76 per share, as compared to Tecity Group's previous offer of S$5.70 per share.

Look at it another way.

The company you work for probably keeps a certain amount of it's wealth in liquid form to pay salaries, bills etc and keeps the rest in assets. Stocks and shares may make up a part of their assets.

If their assets lose value, when it comes time to convert them to cash to pay bills, there will be no money. Other assets like factory equipment, inventory, or the property in which their business transact may not be as liquid. No money to do business so the company goes bankrupt. So you lose your job.

You start looking for a new job but many companies have been hit similarly and they are cutting staff to stay in business.

You start living off your savings. The bank your money is in goes bankrupt because they overextended themselves. Your family starts to starve.

The Government starts to give out free food to keep the population from starving to death. You don't want to depend on handouts, they make you feel vulnerable and helpless.

You smuggle yourself overseas to get a job and earn money. They spit on you and call you brown monkey and beat you for taking their jobs but still you work like a slave for a miserable wage to support your family in Singapore.

Are you getting worried yet?

Yu're right, the world is a complex place and it's impossible to know all the information you need to make accurate predictions. Try not to let that stop you from trying.

Andrew may have a knowledge and access to sufficient information about the market to perform an analysis with a high rate of accuracy.

When it's phrased like that it doesn't sound implausible.

I'll admit I'm very impressed with his graphs.

stocks went back up for the few days. As I said in the PREVIOUS 2 THREADs, that dimwit goes into hiding whenever the market is good.

He waits for the next downtrend, then comes out to claim he is right, and that all of us who disagree with him are idiots, coolies, stupids, blah blah blah...

I don't follow the market but wasn't that because the feds cut the interest rate? And arn't experts saying that is going to lead to longer recovery if not another crash?

Andrew didn't consider that the rest of the world would not want another World Wide crash again...... Which is what the few of us is saying, that the rest of the World will try to prevent another crash by supporting the market.

The Feds had already did what was deed impossible a few years back..... by doing an emergency rates cut..... and they, with the rest of the Worlds Govt, would do more again to prevent another crash.

If the 'Experts' knows everything...... the US Banks wouldn't be having the Sub-prime crisis now, would they..... Question Neutral And Andrew would be a millionair because he is SOOOO Correct all the time..... Mr. Green

I agree with you it was simplistic. Still it's what comes to my mind when the Government talks about Singapore's economy needing to be stable.

I'm from the middle class, I believe I don't make enough money to support a family of my own. I pool my income with my family to pay bills etc. Such concerns do worry me.

I don't know your background but our points of view may differ because of different backgrounds.
