That's why there's one more metric which you can consider using : $/km. Or cents/km if you will because usually you'll get numbers like 9-10 cents or so.

With this metric you can boil it all down to the amount you spend going down the road per km.

Add this to your fixed costs including road tax, insurance so on and you can arrive at TCO - the Total Cost of Ownership.

personal experience .....was using 98 hitting about 12.8 km/L. I decided to be light footed, avoiding fierce acceleration, , driving with the economy light on whenever possible.....i managed to hit 14.1 km/L. 553 km on 39 L of shell 98 petrol !

Quite happy with the Lancer GDI..... Laughing

just to share re FC for my car... 2002 Lancer GDI 1.5L Auto.

I managed to break record again....clocking 584.1km on 38.48L of Shell 95...giving me my best ever FC of 15.2 km/L!!!

Normally goes to Petrol station and pump full tank. (Better do it yrself so tat u know what is yr full tank.) Then set your mileage odometer dial to zero. On yr next fill up, jus use yr mileage divide by the liter pump and tat's yr FC.

Thanks for yr advice, but the manual book of my car says use octance 90 and above, surely 92 is higher than 90! Why waste money??? Pumping 92 instead of 98, u actually saves more than 5%! Very Happy

It's not a matter of waste $$....it's all the same...Pay abit more to maintain yr car better rather than spending more in the end to overhaul the damn engine...90? can't be...cos my fren who had a lancer says that RON95 is the minimun for all cars....and 95 costs only 1/2 a cent more than 92...so y not? It's more better in the long run....Unless u're that calulative that even 1/2 cent per liter also want to save...and if u live in england it's worse....$2 sterling(thats abt $4+ here PER LITRE....so I can say its quite ok liao...

all I’m saying is that try 95 and 98….u can see the diff one….esp if u switch between 92 and 98…..smoother ride and quieter engine and in fact the consumption is better than 92….I once worked in a gas station and mingled arnd with the mechanics and this is wad they told me…heck..they even showed me a damaged piston…kinda scary…as if it’s broken into 1/2 liddat….well abt the fuel prices in england it’s liddat one…u win some u lose some….gain as in cars are cheap there…lose is that insurance is high and Fuel esp….aiyah malaysia best lar…fuel same price as sgp but currency is lower so it’s 1/2 price 2 us….
