I bet to differ, I think Genting win because
1) They read the RFP better than other 2 bidders by offering the
best family entertainment IR
2) Genting business model compliment well with Marina Sands IR, and
it is in LV Sands' interest that Genting win. Have you forgotten
about LKY's visit to LV and his meeting with Sheldon Adelson before
the annoucement?
3) The reason Singapore government call it an IR and not casino is
because they want to copy the LV Venetian concept whereby the
operator is able to generate 70% of their revenue from non-gaming
activities. Among the 3 bidders, Genting's proposal is the best in
terms of its ability to run a profitable gated theme park.
4) Ever since the death of Butch Kerzner and Sol Kerzner going for
a bypass operation. There has been many question on Kerzner future
and its ability to pull this through.
5) 8th Wonder's proposal doesnt not fit the bill to become a family
theme park unless we are all millionaire
6) Genting's 30 years license with Universal Studio for this region
is a trump card
7) Singapore biggest handicap in tourism is the lack of a major
theme park for kids. Among the 3 bidders, U.S. is the perfect fit
for Singapore overall strategy in boosting tourism income.
Singapore government is aware of the South JB
passport free zone, and suppose if Genting lost, they will
definitely lobby MY government to allow them to build a IR in JB,
and this will have a major impact on the profitability of Singapore
IRs
