lensherr, you're kidding, right? The Mustang's purpose on Earth is to provide spare parts for the new GT40! Mr. Green Seriously, though, I was supposed to be posted to LA for a year, and for that short period, a '96 Mustang convertible looked like a great deal for US$14000.

On the main topic, though, hopefully everybody will have had a chance to cool off after last night (I can see Heng saying now:"Ha! The flame king can speak!" :mrgreen ). I don't doubt that Heng does have a racing licence - a fair few racing drivers do in fact get their driving licences after their racing licences (IIRC, Craig Lowndes is one of those). That's a bit of a tangent, though.

Where it comes into play is in the discussion of handling, and I think everybody's using different rulers here. Certainly, the IS200 is no Elise, but on the other hand, one would have to be pretty silly to drive it that way.

Wasn't it an IS200 that crashed in Perth and killed a couple of Singapore students a few months back? I'm not sure how that guy managed to roll it at only 150 kmh.

IS200 is only a sporty sedan car...Nothing more...210BHP for the altezza....IS200 is the european version and its toned down cos of VERY strict european Emission standards....Seriously IS200 can't race for Sh!t....In japan they raced it on the track but it's merit is that it's very reilable while other cars Like the NSX suffered overheating...And i dun see any pt Dolling up an Altezza...unless u're driving a Skyline,DC5 etc....its a sedan car....and happens 2 fall in the same catoegry as the Honda Accord....Well at least the IS200 looks better Confused face it...this car can't match up to the Merc and BMWs in terms of Quality and refined ride....but in terms of reliablity i can say that they are matched in one way or another...cos Lexus IS200s are selling quite well in europe....so it shouldn't be that Bad....For everyday use i wun mind driving this over the camry and cefiro....(dun like the styling of these 2 cars) and my pt of saying that It cannot race is because it's 2 bulky and cumbersome.....even the Monster E55 AMG can't do that well cos it's 2 Big....so size DOES play a part here....

i kinda agree with that...Sgp roads are so small....not like germany's autobahns....LOL...no need buy DC5 lar....any car can liao....singapore race 4 wad....everywhere u go...traffic light...and no matter how fast your car is u cannot control the speed of traffic in front of u....agreed? Smile

IMO, the IS200 is more of a "luxury" japanese alternative to a 3 series or C class. Nowhere izit considered a performance vehicle.

now, i'd beg to differ if we are referring to the RS200. 210 hps and 6 speed transmission driving the rear wheels. now this car is good.

hmmm, vaguely recall me being mentioned earlier on in this thread. heng, u got [b]most of the facts right bout the DC5 thread except a) the wheelbase is 2530 mm plus, b) the DC5 is anything but the crappy car u described it to be. Wink

just to clarify. the hp for an IS integra is 160 hps. that of an ITR is 220. the difference comes from the fact that the IS engine deploys the i-vtec on the inlet cams only whereas the ITR engine deploys it to both the inlet as well as the exhaust cams. compression is also higher along with shorter inlet manifold runners and a more free flow exhaust system.

oh btw, i think the s40 is pretty cool. the tps obviously tot so too coz they use it to snare unsuspecting speed demons. Twisted Evil [/b]

neeways.... for the record, this car failed to qualify for the MME race despite being driven by some of the top (carpark) rally drivers from singapore. instead, the other car in the team(team falken), a WRX, qualified rather highly.

Heng - if I were you, I would not bother. I have a friend who bought an IS200, and was totally shocked when he mentioned its 0-100 timing!!! I admit its a looker, nice body kit, nice rims, but like Heng said (very early in the thread), looks good but nothing underneath. But then again, my friend drives it to attract the ladies and seldom goes above 80km/h anyway. Very Happy

Personal opinion, I dun like the look of the ITR (MY OPINION!!! So dun kill/flame me yah? Thats why i got the lancer but got a nice bodykit tho... heheh). But making 220bhp on a NA engine... Idea that is some marvel work from the honda engineers!!!

Guys, guys... stats speak everything when comparing cars, IMHO. The initial comparison will always begin with factory stats when looking at different cars. Taking it out on the track will determine its handling (amongst other things). But the "invite" to take out on track seem to be getting a little heated. If you guys wanna head to PG or sepang, I know of certain clubs that will be heading up pretty soon.

Cool down everyone, all cars have their good and bad points. A good point might be a bad point to different people. My wife hates the look of the STi, but I think it has a killer look. I think the Evo has a feminie look due to its curves, but my wife loves it. Go figure...

What ever it is, drive safe (whether you have a licence or not... Mr. Green )

Hi all,

I'm new here, but I do like to talk about cars.

Just to bring something to the discussion, I just want to mentioned that the DC5 has proven itself to be very capable on a race track.

In an informal race at Sepang (on 31st Jan), a few DC5s took the top spots in a Race that had several EVOs, Porsches, and a whole host of "souped up" cars.
The DC5s were all done up, but it does take a lot to overcome a 300+bhp 4WD rally monster that takes corners better than most supercars.

BTW, a Euro R driven by a lady came in behind the DC5s, and just in front of the leading EVO.

Ah Mr Heng you're such a colorful person, one minute you were claiming to have road skills like no other on the circuit in handling vehicles. And now it turns to go karts. It does take skills to handle a go kart no doubt of which you are an expert, I doubt many people would even come close to u. But unfortunately its not the experiences on karts that we are discussing here.

Fact 1: You shut down the car without having tested it before.

Fact 2: U claimed to have handled road vehicles on circuit before you entered NS, making u what 16 17 yrs old? Thus allowing you to put down cars which you have prior experience except based on stats. (This is not the only car mind you) Giving you a benefit of doubt I would like to witness such miraculous driving of road vehicles. Of which now you say that you don't do anymore due to NS, understandable I suppose.

2. And you are putting down a normal road car designed for everyday Road uses. NOT go Karts not an F1 car.

So unless you are going to demonstrate your handling skills on a Road car theres nothing to go on about. If if you are gonna bait me down to go Kart wif u I admit I lose, are you going to deprive me of your demonstration because of this?

Go-karts it is due to location's convenience sake. Unless u can show me a purpose built circuit in singapore for cars, don't bother wasting my time asking me to go up to malaysia if u can't even handle an easy go-kart decently.
its easy really. if u were so keen on going up to malaysia, u would take me up on this. i didn't say u have to win. i said u have to be DECENT in a go-kart to justify me spending the time and effort to arrange to go up to malaysia.
or the alternative would be to wait till june, when i've gotten my licence and do not have to bother others to drive my car up for me, and when i've ORDed and am a free man, to head up there. how? go-karts or wait? its up to u. i have been stating my offers here, u have been just trying to punch holes everywhere trying to weasel out of the deal.

i said i am nowhere near the drivers in junior formulas, but i definately say i know more than the average everyday driver.
THAT hardly places me in the "road skills like no other" category does it? U forgot all those WRC, Group N, JWRC, Formula ford, renault, 3, 3000, DTM, lGT cars, sportcars, ETCC, BTCC, Champcars, IRL, NASCAR, and a whole host of other series' drivers huh?

Actually my friend got his IS200 when it was going at the all time low of about S$120k. For that price, its going to be a luxury vs performance decision. He obviously went for luxury. Its a nice comfortable ride and you are surrounded by a nice interior and leather, plus its nice and quiet on the inside. On the other hand, one can always get a silvia S15 for about that price. Not as posh (aiyoh, I dread writing this becos I am going to get bombarded by S15 owners) but the fun and performance is there. Actually, I wanted to get the silvia, but the 280bhp versions were no longer available. I for one definitely prefer performance and the growling for the muffer to silence that the IS200 offers.

When my friends indicate the choices of their purchases, I would often ask them to think about the other cars which are in that range and to make an educated decision. At the end of the day, we should focus our anger on the people who are still making us pay tens of thousands to buy a piece of paper in order for us to own a car.... peace OUT!
