Call it protectism or whatever, I believe there is NO NEED to compare a FT and Singaporean when both are suitable for a job. Why bother to employ a FT from oversea when you have locals who can do the job?
Companies may argue that the cost is cheaper. Here is when the Government need to step in. Allow the FTs in which our economy really need, not ordinary foreigners.

But what we observe on the streets are more of ordinary foreigners rather than TRUE Talents which Singapore needs yet lacks of.

The main problem of our government is that they want to capture these black sheeps through policies that may be very unpopular (annuities, cpf, etc)

Yet for daily basic needs, there are definitely sufficient jobs for people to fulfill the needs. The problem here again is some Singaporeans are not willing to accept a lower paying job to do so. Again, the black sheeps. There are easily many part time jobs available that can give you the most basic of needs, provided you are willing to do them

Believe me... there are lots of locals who are Fed-up of working Temp Jobs, and just getting by year-in year-out, while the government increases their own salaries & bump up transport fares as well as GST....

There is never a perfect solution. It is always a balance of pros and cons.

My view is that the same government that moves quickly to ensure a nice chunk of the FDI pie can certainly also move a bit more quickly to take care of its citizens.

The fact of the matter is, that the government had always been reluctant to tackle this can of worms for fear of making the same mistakes as the welfare states.

The thing is, no sensible singaporean wants a welfare state! But everybody certainly wishes that more can be done to strike a balance between light-speed economic development and having social safety nets to protect the less fortunate.

I'm no apologist for govt failure and in this instance, they have failed many singaporeans who needs them the most.

at the rate the ever-ruling party is going and doing & based on the size of Singapore, they will eventually end up with a population of citizens who can pack up and return to their original country at a drop of a hat...

The price of growth really. They made the decision to promote rapid growth and this is the aftermath.

Thing is, we can't go ahead and take the rapid improvements in sg for granted, and turn around and blame the government for creating this wake of poverty destruction.

Still, it's their mess to clear, and I have every faith that they will do it. But time is as always, too short.
