What makes you think that a public sector job is any less
stressful than a private sector one?
Its a common misconception really... A lot of my peers joined the
public sector and its becoming quite clear that performance based
appraisal is becoming the norm and if u screw one up, it can make a
"so-so salary" into a "tragically underpaid salary".
It hurts a lot to see one's colleague get an extra month's bonus
for good performance and u get squat. Increments are also pegged to
performance so u can really cry when u start comparing...
Stability is also not that definite. If u swing over to the
government gazettes, u will find that public officers do get
dismissed from service... and thats not counting the ones that get
asked to tender to "save face" for everyone.
Last time, when there was pension and medical, it was a real solid
place to be. Now? Its just another place to work for a living
really...
As for SAF, I think its quite dangerous too... They do not get to
work till 62 by default... If an officer kena henta-kaki, then they
will get asked to "move on"... and at 55, that's no joke man! Where
to get another job?
I guess after 9-11, there was a demand for "security managers" at
some buildings and companies
