You dont need to be 21 and below to join the army.

You link isn't exactly Army/RSAF/RSN. Those are civilian positions within Ministry of Defence. Also, similar to many other Ministries (FA/Finance/Edu etc...) they are only taking Graduates for executive positions (There are some exceptions of course). Based on the link you provided.

If a Good honours or Good Degree holder has a problem landing in the Pte sector, for whatever reason(e.g. losing out to FT). This country has a serious problem IMO.

I dont think there is any issue of Singaporeans finding a job here in Singapore, the only problem I see is that Singaporeans are complaining that they are under paid for their skills and "talent" because of FT. And by having a university degree that doesnt make you any superior because many FT are uni grad too.

So my suggestion to those who are unwilling or incapable of competing with FT, join the army or become a civil servant.

Its a fact that influx of FTs are driving wages down.

And having a degree should at least put you on a level playing field with a FT when landing a job. Some might even disagree with that, as there are those who feel that the playing field should be tilted in the favour of the citizen. e.g. giving incentives for hiring locals instead of FTs. Hire FTs only if you cannot find locals to take the job.

To borrow the some word of a PAP MP, FTs should be a supplement, not an easy first choice for employers. As far as I know, there is no levy for FT who earn more than 2.5k a month. Coupled with no reservists(for males), no CPF to pay. Hell, its a bloody attractive hire for any employer

edit: And you say like the civil service is like a dumping ground for Pte sector rejects. How does a Poly grad at 30yrs join the army? Or even a 'O' level holder for that matter? Do remember that degree holders are far from being the majority among the resident workforce.

stop crapping about more superior ft pushing out locals...there are increasing cases of inferior ft taking local jobs only because they are cheaper...period...even jobs used to be done by local aunties are being replaced by unskilled foreigners...

a buddy failed to get promoted despite good appraisal, only to have a prc hired as his superior...why? because the prc, despite higher in rank, cost less....an experienced indian accountant hired for $1.8k, fresh local grad won't even go for it....choosy? nope, it's unrealistic.....

so open your eyes big big before claiming locals cannot compete in terms of talent, they can but they expect reasonable pay and not exorbitant wages. there is certainly a growing unrest.....

as for joining the army, didn't the papers report a prc labourer's son got saf scholarship to read at an ivy league uni last year....so much for seeking refuge in the army...lol

I have no issue securing a good job. I was able to job hop twice in 6 months, reject several offers from other companies and at the same time increase my pay by 50% and also upgrade my post by a level. It's all about how you carry yourselves and how well you're known in the industry.

But no credit to this government of ours. I managed to secure my current job because of my own capabilities and capacity to take on this engineer's job in a EU MNC run by mostly German FTs. Plenty of opportunities of going overseas.

Do you still remember how did Roosevelt topple his competitor? I am not surprised to see it repeat here.
To depend on this hopeless government for job opportunities?

you are most welcome to be a nurse at SAF medical center if your fail in your attempt to be a doctor in Australia. Maybe they might give you a rank too you never know.

I read they paid their soldiers highly n their Australian SAS is famous. U should take a look at the documentary when Australian troops landed in

East Timor to liberate them. Very Happy

If you work , yet have no job - which means that you are self employed . But even those self employed will say they have a job to run their own business.

So which is it? You have a job but don't do it , you are self employed or you looking for jobs now?

If you engage in a hostile war , you qualify for DVA card with perks for medical care and DENTAL plus pension is better than govt pension.

Then when you hit a certain age - DVA gold card - no need private health insurance liao.

If you get outposted and of a certain rank- the Australian Defence forces will pay for your accomodation regardless of whether you are in Australia or not . Defence housing all very nice .
