charlize SG Funny how they are asking people who have not really started working to explain about income. Makes it seem like this exercise is just, as always, for show only.
fymk SG I mean that you should try it out . A winning paper will get around without pulling the multi million dollar salary and foreign talent policies into that blame game. As for the policy side , don't pull in the welfare part in. Basically to win, you have to write like an elite on an ivory tower.
charlize SG You are absolutely right. You need to start your essay with: "Kudos to the ruling government for making Singapore what it is today. Without brilliant planning and astute policies, this little island state would never have become the glowing economic success that many countries can only envy and admire..." Somewhere in the middle of your essay, address the issue of a widening income gap. But make sure the reason you give is globalisation and that there is nothing much the government can do since it is happening everywhere across the world. Don't ever mention the touchy subject of having the highest paid ministers in the world whom despite always pledging to narrow the income gap, see it widening every year instead. End your essay with another word of praise. Or two. Remember, use only good adjectives. Kind of like those which MPs use during the previous Budget debates. Good luck.
googoomuck SG My rules Begin the essay with "Once upon a time" and end with "...we all live happily ever after ! " Write between 500 and 1000 words.
Demonight SG They'd probably skim through it, looking for criticisms. If they find even 1 they'll put the paper through the shredder

zenden9 SG I will write abt multi million minster gets 50% pay cut. Withdraw 30Billion Sg dollar from Singapore national reserve to help ease the widening income gap!
googoomuck SG "Cutting Ministers' pay won't trim fat. You're getting a bargain for the ministers' pay. As a surgeon, I worked half as much and made 5 times more." - Bargain Ng Eng Hen
fymk SG I don't think that their only purpose is to look for solutions only . I think they also want to know what you guys are thinking. Poly and Uni students are the new generation and they are wary of an educated generation which can easily vote them out. Get enough people to start hammering FT policies and the ministerial salaries again - they will find some way of offering you an illusion of a large carrot while writing it on a loan chit which you have to pay back 2 carrots.
