my colleagues are ok. one of them is a good friend to me. my
aussie neighbours are nice to me too and we had get together over
beer and pizza at their places.
just have to keep up with their humour and be witty. as i said, the
angmohs here are 1st generation with most coming from england and
there are afew 2nd, 3rd generations.
over time, i can sense that some of them have their dislikes of
other races; aboridgines, viets, lebanese and recently, muslims.
initially they keep associate me with China, educated in accordance
to the UK's GCE standards, good Oracle IT experiences, active
sportsmen in strongman contest etc..
to me, it is important to clarify with them that we are not PRC
Chinese and a 3-4th generation singaporean chinese. Chinese as a
whole is a race, just like caucasians that emigrated from europe to
america or australia.
by the way, immigration here is tight. immigrants arent as many as
what sg is absorbing in right now.
so they know the people that are coming in are of certain quality
and economic contributors.
