Why groom us when there is little intention of hiring us?

This is what happens when you don’t CHOOSE something that you ENJOY and are GOOD AT. This is what happens when you CHOOSE something based on TRENDS – trends CHANGE.

ndmmxiaomayi SG

It’s more of our own short-sightedness. All of us should know that once things get popular, everybody wants a share, and when demand exceed what can be provided, a lot won’t get it.

royston_ang SG

You shouldn't choose what you enjoy but choose what will put food on your table. For example, I am sure there are a lot of people enjoying art, but are there many great artist in SG? That's what reality is!

HyperFocal SG

In truth, & to be more precise; SG is not a place where ART (of any form) can flourish....

Well, the gov did try to turn SG into a BT hub. But it's not doing enough to help local grow in this area. The gov has simply forgotten that the local are the only real resource that SG has. Depending solely on FT to build the industry is a short-sighted move as the FT will one day go back to their homeland along with their skill-set.

Look at India, it can never be that strong in IT without strong encouraging from its gov.

While still under construction, up to 90% of the office staff & Marina IR construction staff are foreigners. Once it is ready, maybe many of the graduates of IR related courses will ask the same question: why groom if no hire..kekeke

Ohand similarly from the graduates of the sports school too.

sLeEpWaLkErInG SG

well, does singaporeans want to work as construction workers in the first place?
I know a few of safety officers that are singaporeans in IR Marina.

I agree with bear.

That is why I went (albeit unhappily) with my father's advice (and some financial coercion in regards to my lodgings) to nursing. My old man has better foresight than the government. I wanted to do biotech....but HENG ah....for once I didn't turn rebellious .

In Sg the smart 1 rules, if u just want to be a follower, follow smartly not blindly.

My big boss said this b4 " work smart dun work hard "

Kuali Baba SG

So even if you can't find work here, you'll still have the passion to take it elsewhere, and have the aptitude to do well.

Which is true - it's still very much a niche market. The same applies to fine art, design and theatre, even though we have talented people.

doesn't matter what field you're in ....

if you get DDDDDDDDDDDDDD ... who'll hire you ? ...

I think those who rush to study tourism courses ppl are stupid and foolish.

becuz..

All of them wanna be sitting in office and be executives. But they didnt consider the fact tt govt says tt alot of jobs will be available onces the IR is done will include cleaners,dealers,bellboy,receptionist,ushers......

By the time IR is done, how many fresh grad from tourism courses will be on the 'Rdy ..get set... go' mentality.

Dont forget FTs also wanna fight for your rice bowl.

fymk SG

That's a good one Daydreamer.

However tourism courses can extend to hotels. Tourism is Singapore's main industry .

It is the people who take up those silly diplomas specialising in casino management . They will really suffer... Casino executives usually know the floor , they know the games and how it works. Heck some even know how to deal cards to VIPs. To run a casino , you need to know everything about a casino and the way it is ran. Each casino has a different system and they train their staff in a particular way. So what if you have working experience in one casino? Another casino won't take you in because it is easier to train a new comer to their system than pay someone more for their experience.

I really pity the poor jokers who sign up for the diploma in casino management. I think that the dealer on the floor has a much better chance of going up the ladder. However it is still Singapore , so maybe they will require all dealers to be poly /uni grads?
