Well, its true right? Even many of the middle income earners are struggling. Mean income level in Singapore is about 4k/mth give or take a little. And about 70% of households live below that level. With the inflation and rising costs of general amenities, I for one am discouraged. The rise in cost of luxury goods is one thing. The rise in transports and basic stuff and taxes, toss in inflation into the mix.

The growth in the singapore economy means very little, especially to the lower and middle income groups. Its has been well published over several sources that the lower and middle income groups benefit the least, if any of them benefit at all. While higher income earners reap the most, even in terms of percentage.

a) Why do you have to use the word 'maybe'?

b) There are also well published reports that freash grad and civil servants are getting higher salary? Can you say these people are not benefiting from the booming economy?

Well, as far as I'm concerned, the government only wants people (local or foreign), but has little or no solid solutions for their old age when they become less productive...

This is yet another confirmation that you are only blindly supporting whtever the government based on their own expediency losing touch with the ground or any rationale.

Although the perpetrators of wrongs seem to be responsible for their wrongs the supporters might be more guility as without them the government might have changed and corrected their wrongs earlier. Think.

We need to ask,

has SG all those responsible for the solution,

put in all their due diligence and effort already?

if not, why?

who is paid to solve this problem?

do they have the solution already?

inviting foreigners to make up for the 'empty seats'?

Can all the so-called talents, creme dela creme, all add up able to fix the 'light bulb'?

If not, why?

Who are we waiting for to fix this problem?

How about add more money?

will it solve the problem?

I thot money is the mudder of all solutions?

my humblest of all humble solutions

using the concept that Money can save us all from our problems,

I urge the scholarstics to adopt my free solution:

1. every new born will be offered FREE Education, all the way into any of our local universities as long as they qualify by education results.

I have other solutions based on the mudder of all solutions - Money. So easy. Super super easy until cannot easy. I wonder if my solution is better and more effective.

If my solution works when all else have failed, then I wont even ask to be paid handsomely. To me, community service comes from the heart. Why need to be paid so much to serve my beloved community????

Australia has so many times more population.
its citizens get free education all the way to even phd.

sg is too tiny to even be compared to australia.

why this tiny little city not able to entice parents to make more babies by giving FREE Education? IS this not the best investment in citizens?

some kinds of citizens are already getting some kind of free edication.

why not for all?

b) Yes, there are fresh grads earning a higher salary.
Workers with a tertiary education only make up about 10-15%(give or take a few). And those newly graduated only make up a small percentage of the total number of those in the workforce with a tertiary education.

Fresh grads the last couple of years earning higher wages than their seniors, doesn't discount the fact that the majority of lower and middle income households do not benefit(if at all) from the growth in the economy. Which has been published in local press several times.

When a couple are striving to make ends meet or even striving for a more comfortable life, having babies is not up front on the list of priorities.

Nah...the same can be said that you are blindly condemning PAP and the Lee families. Do you think that if Dr. Chee were to take over as PM, Singapore will be making more babies? Maybe the would "Chee" might get you excited, but not me.

1) Why are we talking about the entire work force when majority who are >45 are not going to have any more babies regardless if they are rich, average or poor

2) Are you disputing that a better economy will not encourage more people to have babies and a recession will not make it more difficult to have babies?

Study the posts again by many forumers in response to this kind of reasoning bordering on M/W is always right regarding various issues and problems raised either by the media or the forumers themselves.

Past policies of M/W which we the people have been discussing here of late are no longer as workable as they used to be at one time.

Should these policies be changed? If not tell us again why? That is the best way to measure your contention as stated that people wrongly condemned the PAP without facts or substance. Look at these posts I mentioned on this page for example ranging from "Should government seek refuge behind the civil libel to avoid accountability?" or "LHL Incompetence to encourage Singaporeans to have more baby".

On substance it will be found that many of the M/W past policies are no longer as effective as they were made out to be.

As for your defence of those policies will you tell us which of your rebuttal were particularly convincing.

what is free education for a tiny population when it is only so little compared to the GDP?

Dont they know this is called investment in its own people?

Actually for most executives, $$ is not the main consideration

You know the baby bonus is like pittance and not even worth having a baby for Laughing It is not something that will attract women to have babies.

The main concern that most have I think is job security and employers tend to be 'anti-family' A lot of them have the mindset that if you have a child, you will no longer be as committed to your work.

It is this fear of losing the job, potential lost of opportunity that is holding a lot of people back.

That aside, many couples now do not live with their parents and caring of the child becomes a problem and they don't trust strangers to look after the baby.

I think more would be willing if work hours are more flexible and getting pregnant is no longer a dirty word.

I'm not for stuff like free education because there is nothing free in this world. Sure you get free education but you will end up paying more taxes.

I forgot to add that apart of the above, it is also a lifestyle choice.

1)Coz I don't want to make false claims about the percentage of "eligible baby makers" within the workforce who have tertiary education. Hence the percentage was based on the study for the whole workforce, used as a guide.

2) I am pointing out the fact that the "better economy" being propagated at the moment by the government is overrated and not being felt by the general populace well enough, to shift baby making upwards on their priority list. And I didn't say anything about a recession.

Yes, there can be free education if it is given out free.

As simple as that.

Dont come and tell me oh, nothing is free so, whatever you want , more expensive life for you.

ITs called ability or inability.

Willing or not willing.

some things were paid money many many and the reason was, only so tiny compared to GDP.

I assure you, many more babies will be born in 1 year if Free Education is implemented.

The mother or father ideally should take care of child until he/she grows up.
Thus, i support not relying on maids to bring up a child.
A child is too much a treasure to be left in the hands of a maid.

A person must not be ignorant of the amount and love, time, care and effort needed to bring up a child. Having a maid to do that is ignorant and irresponsilbe. Its convenient but a baby 's care and upbringing is not outsourceable like in business. Not everything in life is about outsourcing. This mentality flaw comes when one is too brainwashed such that they think most important thing in life is money, economy and everything can be solved by money.

Either parent must sacrfice at least 1 or 2 years to bring up a child per child.

Thus, this sacrifice and cost of opportunity can be compensated by FREE EDUCATION.

I say it again, with FREE EDUCATION, many more will produce more babies within 1 year. The FREE Education compensates the parent's lost of work and alleviates completely their burden to save enough money for their childrens' education.

This is an investment and not a cost.

Also, many are already given FREE EDUCATION here. I urge the responsible persons to approve this bill to provide FREE EDUCATION for all.

This WILL solve the baby problem.

My solution is FREE.

What is this amount compared to the GDP increase that will come from more babies in years to come?

So simple, the mudder of all solution. I present to you, ladies and gentlemen.

Otherwise, how can it be, when Income Gap keeps widening while there's ongoing economic boom?

You really think the countries that give out free education is really free?
Maybe you should go compare the income tax levels.

You can say that it is still a good idea because the rich will be subsidising the 'poor'.

All I can say is, just don't get caught in the middle.

well, share options, shares all went up...bonuses, employment..etc etc all these go up..don't think its fair to say that its only good for them and not the people at large..perhaps its a section that are left behind for the past couple of years...
