Smooth Gear Change

My car feels a little jerky, especially when I’m shifting from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. I wonder if I’m not accelerating enough, but I’m worried about burning out the clutch. Any tips for making gear changing smoother?

double clutching maybe?
if u want you can rev higher before changing gears i tink
maybe your timing when clutching is abit off, jus need more practice
or you can always ride the clutch and burnt it out in a coupla months and pay an extra grand to fix it up Shocked

I also have the same problem. After experimenting, I realised that my rpm is too low when i change gears. Pushing to 2,500rpm before changing is generally better in my case.

Another reason is the petrol. I realised that 95 is more jerky than 98 (somehow). Or maybe 98 gives you more acceleration, so it somewhat makes it smoother...

go easy on the clutch. be gentle, and make sure your revs are high enough to justify shifting up.

Hrmm theres bound to be some jerkiness when driving a manual, to slowly release the clutch all the time can be quite a pain.

Usually I change at around 3000, not smooth but acceptable. Anyway my passenger better dun complain hahaha

wah, 3000 is rather high, your consumption must be quite high. i drive a '99 sunny 1.5m, gives me 13.5-14.5km/litre.

well, you've got to make sure you've reached the 'right' speed before changing gears
For my Natasha(Name of my car, a Kelisa)
1st gear to move off...
2nd gear to 30km
3rd to 50km
4th to 70km

but with my previous suzuki wagon r+
1st gear to move off...
2nd gear to 25km
3rd to 40km
4th to 60km

so it really depend on your car.... and got to coordinate your clutch and accelerator.... shld go in opp direction at ard same speed.... Smile

oh ya.... my Natasha(kelisa 1L, manual) clocked 17.6km(Max) per litre of 98 Very Happy

anyway I think currently the best way to have the smoothes gear change is to be really gentle at the biting point and release slowly to the end...

its actually an auto gear box with infinitesimal amount of gearings that vary as your speed increases.
