A citizenry with almost 100%
education that is lamented by the MIW Clowns and Clones to be
without any spark, without the X-Factor.
Educated but without the creative entrepreneurial spirit, educated
by unable to face global challenges, educated but insensitive to
the other helpless and destitute in our own society.
After 40 years in political control, is this the best quality that
the MIW government can give to Singaporean 'with almost 100% education'
?
no one starving to death
How about near death for the
elderly destitute, who have to eke out a living by pushing rickety
trolleys piled high with discarded cartons that are collected on
their daily rounds, and to be sold for a pittance so as to be able
to put some anchovies and salted vegetables on the table
?
no rampant crime-ridden streets with no-go zones for the
police
no one being beaten to death
Are you in Singapore for the last
six months, when a spate of murders and beating resulted in a few
deaths outside nightclubs and bars, and groups of youths chasing
another group through he void decks of the heartlands ?
No-go zones for the police, surely the Singapore Police have no go
zones in Singapore - especially passing the front gates of
minister's homes guarded by Gurhkas ?
no outright squalor in the streets
What level of filth will you want
to see before you will give it the status of squalor
?
seriously... everything else, you can achieve without all the
nonsense and talk of revolution and other kinds of
stupidity...
Surely you are not seriously
''filled in your stomach, and
your brains dulled'' - as so desired by LKY
?
if only you allow yourself to be free.. you are...
stand up for? stand up to?
try yourself... live your life the way you want to...
sheesh.. isn't it easy to blame everyone else for things you are
afraid to do?
Many had tried to gather at the
carpark along the East Coast Parkway to drive as a convoy to
protest the ERP increases, but had their names recorded for being
present at the East Coast carpark, and warned not to be in any
convoy.
Can cars travelling together in the same direction towards Changi
Airport in any free flow manner be considered a convoy ?
Others tried to deliver a protest note of conscience to the US
Embassy, and was prevented from doing so without even approaching
100 meters from the main driveway.
Catherine Lim attempted to exercise her political rights to voice
her political opinion, but was warned that politics are for
professional politicians only.
The late Dr Lee Siew Choh had feverishly worked on his memoirs
during the last year of his life, but the surviving members of his
family was 'persuaded' not
to fulfill his wish in publishing it after his death.
The rights of freedom of the surviving members of the family of the
late President Devan Nair was similarly impinged, when they were
similarly ''persuaded''
not to publish Devan's Nair's memoirs after he passed away.
Surely, there are many issues that Singapore can stand up for in
unison -
1. the indiscriminate use of the Law and the Law Enforcement
Agencies to terrorise the legitimate rights of the Citizens as
originally described by the Singapore Constitution;
2. the indiscriminate abuse of the parliamentary right to amend the
Constitutions that continue to burden the Citizens with
miscellaneous laws that easily trip the Citizens into committing an
offense;
3. the indiscriminate abuse of ministerial powers to put anyone
into incarceration, and with NO INDEPENDENT Review Panel that will
consist of independent minded individuals that are not in the grip
of the MIW influence;
4. the continuous abuse of the ministerial powers to empty the
pockets of Singaporeans by creatively distancing the Executive from
their Public Duties in service to the Citizens - by creating new
''Privatises'' entities
run on commercial terms but still owned by the Government;
The Singapore Government and Parliament are no better than the
present Malaysian situation created by 20 years of Mahathir's
domination as reviewed by a university professor : with the
misleading heading that should have read - ''Constitution
is NO LONGER the highest law''
Don : Constitution not the highest law
The New Straits Times, Wednesday 31 October
2007
KUALA LUMPUR: Constitutional supremacy in Malaysia is not real,
according to constitutional law lecturer Professor Shad Saleem
Faruqi.
He said the Constitution was supposed to be the highest law
in the country but in reality it was just a notion.
A great deal of legislation passed by parliament and state
assemblies disregard constitutional limits.
For example, the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 says a
ministers discretion shall be absolute. He can impose any
condition he deems fit.
In a country with a supreme constitution, how can anyone
have absolute discretion? asked Shad Saleem.
It had to be a discretion constrained by the
constitution, he said.
Freedom of speech can be restricted only on grounds of order,
security, morality but here you put a stamp on the menu and you say
sulit, terhad (private and confidential) and it becomes that.
It has nothing to do with national security, or public order or
friendly relations with other states. Whatever Parliament passes in
its wisdom, that is the law, he said at the 14th Malaysian Law
Conference 2007 yesterday.
Shad Saleem said the supreme charter should not only restrict the
executive but also Parliament.
Here, however, the Constitution has not become the sail and
anchor, the chart and compass of our nations legal endeavours. It
is merely notional.
The Constitution does not constrain parliament. It hardly
constrains the executive because the executive has been given power
by a parliament whose powers are unlimited, he
said.
