the merger of all the BN component parties?

how do you think of the idea of merging all the BN component parties like UMNO, MCA, MIC, gerdakan etc to form a single party instead of alliance?

Race plays a big part in Malaysia politics. This is why UMNO is the biggest party because it represents the largest ethnicity. It is followed by MCA representing the second-largest community - Chinese - and MIC for Indians.

There is also UPKO or something representing Kazakans in Sabah and Sarawak (detailed facts may not be correct).

A alliance of the three is ideal but there are also several parties that are racial-based like Gerakan and PPP. I think BN will be more stable if Gerakan re-merged with MCA and PPP merged with MIC.

Once merged, the voices of the minority will only get weaker, yet you don’t get any more leverage over national matters which will still be controlled by ex-UMNO leaders and Malays.

Kayveas takes a pot shot at Gerakan

Fresh from his war of words with the MIC, Datuk M. Kayveas has now turned his attention to Gerakan.

The PPP president accused Gerakan of "playing to the gallery" in proposing a merger of all 14 Barisan Nasional component parties.

He said he agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi that parties in the BN were not ready for a merger.

"When the PPP proposed a merger with Gerakan a few years ago, it disagreed.

It can't even merge two parties and yet is suggesting that the BN components become one party," he said at the prime minister's and Muslim ministers' Hari Raya open house on Saturday.

Kayveas was commenting on Gerakan Youth chief Datuk Mah Siew Keong's suggestion last week that all 14 BN component parties be consolidated.

Kayveas said if Gerakan was serious about a merger of the 14 BN parties, it should lead the way by making the first move.

"If Gerakan can start the ball rolling, people will see it as a do-able concept."
