suspension in school, your view?

I think that suspension from school should be abolished.

for it prevents the student from excelling in their studies. note that mischievous=/=not intelligent, therefore all students are entitled to education with attitude being semi exclusive from it ( not withstanding to attitude towards school work)

deprivation of education for a certain period of time is contradictory to the goal of this punishment; to deter the students from future misdemeanours.

some students may enjoy not going to school, as quoted in the thread. misuse of such a punishment may in turn seem as a reward thus encouraging the delinquents to commit more of such acts.

I think suspension from school should be used as the last resort, behind caning, counselling and being debarred from exams.

What is your point of view?

suspension should only be carried out if the student represents a substantial and proven obstacle to other student's learning.

the point of punishing in the school should be to rehabilate not penalise the victim which is what suspension does by depriving of education and supervision.

besides, i don't see how suspension would work to discipline the kid Confused

At least suspension exist as a way to warn students who went beyond the limit. So it shouldn’t be abolished.

suspension is deprivation of education, therefore like u said, unless he/she proves to be a distraction or having the malicious intent/ actions which affects the students, teachers or school without having any chance of changing will result in suspension, no less.

If he's really a nuisance, he can have a spare classroom for himself, with all the materials for him.

If any kind soul would guide him, then that would be good.

Depends on whether the deed by a student is seriously criminal.

By that, not theft or playing truant, but like beating up teachers or harrassing female students if the student is a male, which puts other's life or safety in jeopardy.

Hence, there would usually be follow-up investigations after suspension, which may lead to expulsion.

i agree suspensions shouldn't be used, but in a way it is effective.

When a student gets suspended, he or she is not allowed to enter the school to study, hence will feel weird and probably remorseful. Probably after a period of time, he or she will return to school, and in most cases i've came across, the student has changed for the better. Some even call the suspension period '' soul searching period. ''

So somehow suspension does have its positive effect. However, it should be put on the last few on the list of punishments. ( It already is, though. )

Agree with this. Isolate this person instead of suspension with maybe the principal or a councillor with the person.

The word "student", means one whose main priority is academic achievements.

I do not agree with the idea of abolishing suspension fairly because this should be a punish for those lads who have their minds distracted and do not repent their mistakes.

Suspension might be due to continuous commitment of serious offences like: playing truant, involvement in serious fights, disrespect to teachers, possession of pornography and other banned items etc.

It should be strong deterrence to all students who happen to forget their main task, which is to study. The school will help them to focus and direct their attention to academics and cca.

This is also an alternative for the highly opposed corporal punishments.

suspension means nothing to delinquent students. they get into trouble in the 1st place to show that they are not afraid of the sch system and its punishments. preventing them from attending school will just make them happy and give them a sense of accomplishment,believing that the school cannot handle them and has conceded…....

i feel that suspension will never work on delinquents or students who dont enjoy schooling at all. They will not treasure their place in school. Nowadays more and more sec school kids are becoming like this perhaps? i keep seeing sec school kids wearing their ear studs or tongue studs or whatever studs outside of school. Is that even proper? Punishments such as standing, doing extra homework should work on students who are interested in learn.
