Sadly, if Opps have not been given any chance to do things like negotiate treaties, FTAs, EDB stuff to attract FDI etc, there is no way they can gain that experience.

Its not that Opps have no talents to do the job. I think they are just as smart and wise and educated people. Its just that they never have the chance to prepare for the role.

Lets say a baby is born a genius. If you lock him up and dun let him do and learn and practise anything, their genius power cannot be released.

What do you expect the opposition party to do given their number of seat (just 1) in parliament? Even if they come up with any feasible proposal, you think the pap mp will support it?

Just like potong pasir, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan rejected Mr Chiam See Tong request for $80m upgrading funds (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/216177/1/.html). This incident clearly show that the gov (pap) do not support any proposal from the opposition, they will have to finance it themselves which is of course impossible.

i think some form of control is still healthy as we are still unable to think independently on our own.

Imagine without the strict control, some crazy kid will just get a gun and shoot at everyone at his or her school....

Hong Kong (without natural resources) a country with the same circumstances as Singapore thrive as a British colony.

Singapore might have had more domestic industries like Hong Kong if not for the benevolent fascist's reliance on external foreign direct investments.

Whether a country succeeds or fail, alot of the conditions depend on the characteristics of the people rather than just the leaders. Compare the growth Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and more recently China with those of Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia.

HK did all the same whether it was part of British or China. Britain is located much further way from HK than China is to Singapore.

Ya,but Malaysia did use water issue to threaten Singapore right?This is not called bully,then this is called "friendly"?And recently,our country and Malaysia also having a dispute about an island.
