it really amazes me that people can find so much time complaining about what they think the government did or did not do...

the bottom line is this, everyone has the same amount of hours in the day, everyone be they rich or poor are playing in the same swimming pool, so at the end of the day, how much you achieve is not limited by the government, it is limited by the individual.

To be fair to everybody, LKY seemed to be amking comment about how the SAF will mount a coup if any opposition party is not able to govern Spore

effectively by mismanaging the reserve, local women will become maid if the present ruling party is sept out of power n his immediate defence to justify the raise of minister's salary. I felt probably due to last year's election result which saw the 66% voted for AMK GRC, it is a worrying trend for the ruling party.

I doubt Singaporeans will ever vote PAP out of power if the latter are able to bring continual economic growth and stability to this country. However that doesnt mean that 100% of singaporeans will favour them. (as you can see there are many blinded opposition in this forum)

However, I do believe that many Singaporeans will also vote for the opposition party not because they want to topple PAP, but rather, give PAP a good run for their money.

Indirectly you are saying that government is always right and there is no need for people to complain about problems and complaints are counter-productive.

Prove your stand is right with facts and logics supported by relevant researches that government wll not misuse its political power for their own purposes in the context of our next phase of development.

People want to migrate for different reasons. For the price of your HDB flat and your car you'll probably be able to afford a nicer house and a nicer car elsewhere. With that car you can drive up to a nearby vineyard, enjoy the scenery and grab some wine. Thereafter you have the option of going fishing with your buddies where the view is nice and the fishes plentiful and big. In between, you guys talk cock and drink relatively inexpensive alcoholic beverages like beer and wine. Inexpensive because, they are produced locally and others probably don't tax as high as Singapore.

I'm contented in Singapore, you can say that i am happy staying here but its not Utopia. I do have my gripes but i'm not living in conditions that bad that only by leaving do i have a spine, feel liberated, feel less silly etc.

There are several ways to migrate, its no big deal.

the fact of the matter is, whatever government is in power, the situation will still be the same old... it may look rosy and good for the first couple of years, then governments get complacent, and will eventually be ousted or if they stay in power long enough, then you come back to the same situation with what we have now, people complaining about how complacent and useless the government is...

complaining is always counter productive, imagine if you took the amount of time you spent complaining and spent that on thinking how to imporve your situation... Wink

imho…i tink that we take for granted what Singapore is able to offer….we take for granted what is readily avaliable…it is true that the goverment policies might be stifling…but at the end of the day…after being in another country for 20 to 30 yrs….one day u will still tink of returning back to sg..where all yr frens and families are…i am currently in oz now…but i know of a lot of singaporeans tt are PR there but will never take up oz citizenship..coz they all tell me tt they see themselves back in sg..and tt oz can never be called a true home….but it’s true tt ppl in oz have a higher quality of life..they have more time for their families and ppl out here are a lot less stressed up and friendlier…there’s onli one sg in the entire world…no matter how we think of sg…it’s still home and where we belong…we might all criticise our government..but when we get flame by our neighbours from across the straits..u can see tt Singaporeans are also capable of alot of patriotism….much more than ppl from othe countries…

Generally if u looked at local based on my observation as a PR staying here for a quarter of my life, Taiwanese n to a lesser extend HK are quite good in

doing business n they are also successful in US or Canada. Look at US Secretary of Labour also from Taiwan. The fact that Chinatown in the West are mostly started by Taiwanese or HK.

If sg people are patriotic and will think of their ties back in sg despite their migration one day, then all the more we should have a government which will treasure its own citizens and not call them quitters or drive away their citizens by all kinds of uncalled draconian policies to protect only its own political power and its own elites and governing interest as seen in the past.

It should be more proactive in serving the people and treasure its own citizens as foreigners who come here to take up PRs or citizenship might do so for economic interest and return to their original abode one day too.

My observation is that Taiwanese are very good in manufacturing and chemical, while singapore companies are strong in hospitality, finance and property.

we shd remember tt PAP is not Singapore ..and Singapore is not PAP....and do not agree with wad certain MIW has been saying bout Oz been a dumping ground for losers from Singapore....i tink tt for the enlighten ppl tt has been either have been studying or working abroad..we realise tt Singapore is very insignificant in the world stage...to be honest..when i first came over to oz...i was shocked tt how a reporter actually questioned John Howard on national tv and basically told him to ''shut it'' in a polite manner...haha...our government might be narrow minded and arrogant in their view of others but as Singaporeans and individuals we shd not let our government stop us from projecting out pride as Singaporeans...we might be disappointed with our garmen..but we shd be proud to be Singaporeans...

What u said about arrogance on the leadership is something not new in Spore. When I served NS, I was asked by a Colonel on how I find my unit

there was a group of other senior officers, operations officer, Ops WO, RQMS n Chief Clerk. Of course, I said there is bound to be pro n con in each unit. Immedicately this caused a hostile reaction by my OPS WO who wanted to give me extra duty.
