1) Ask yourself this qn. Do u really think LHL is of PM calibre? In my personal view, NO. so why is he our PM? The truth is simply because of his father. I have great respect for LKY. He has done a marvelous job for Singapore and I really appreciated the achievements he had.

Back to LHL. His policies are so flawed. And most his ministers are not up to the mark. Sad to say so.

Now consider his wife, Ho Ching. How to u explain an army ex-SSG become the chairman of Temasek Holding? Her capabilities? Nah I dun think so. If she is not the daughter-in-law of LKY, do you think she will achieve her position today?

2) We are talking about the new and young generation of PAP government. Stop using the achievement of the old guards as a testimontal to the new generation abilities. Old PAP members had done a great job does not mean the present generation is of the same calibre.

Look at recent government policies. Do they benefit the ordinary Singaporeans or just the rich ones?

The joke among the policies is "7% GST is used to help our low income Singaporeans." What an ironic and stupid reason to increase their own income.

technically, according to web, its possible to trace exact identity of forummers. The rationale is as follows:

0. Every connection to the forum requires an IP address. The forum server has this record.
1. IP address of your connection is linked to your ISP.
2. Your ISP has your ID.

as simple as that.

So, let say a forummer called Goozil, he thinks he is anonymus when in fact his identity is right there cannot hide.

The GST is economics at play. Have you ever wondered why the individual income tax in Singapore is one of the lowest in the world? Because of GST.

The GST reduces the need for individual income tax. It also helps the poor because the richer people buy more goods. By doing so, the rich pay more GST. If you are poor, you buy less goods and you pay less GST. So, the GST falls mostly on the rich. Get it?

I am not so good at economy but this logic dun seem 100% correct.

Low income groups use most of their income on necessaries. With increase in GST, the prices of necessaries also increased. So what happened then? Cut down on necessaries? Scrimp and scrimp? Eat bread and drink plain water everyday?

Consider the low individual income tax. Who benefit the most from this policy? The rich? Or the poor? The answer is obvious, isn't it?

You mentioned that with lower individual income tax, the riches will spend more, and thus pay more GST. So all these money goes into helping the poor? Are we 100% about this? I dun know the answer either.

Okay I understand the logic behind low cooperate tax and individual income tax are to attract more foreign and domestic investments. Hence, more people will be employed.

In view of both sides of the issue, low income people may not benefit from GST hike but they are definitely adversely affected by it. We need to understand that with low income, every cent counts!

Frankly speaking, it is quite hard to judge whether someone is PM calibre or not. I mean we can evaluate him based on his success or failure, but until you are a PM yourself, it is hard to judge.

Ho Ching's case shows that even someone with a low CEP score can have great potential. Laughing

As can be seen from the above URL, the individual income tax rates have been declining. This is made possible only due to the increase in GST. The GST shifts tax from individual income to goods and services. This allows the country to have such low income tax.

The less well-off need not pay income tax but only GST. Also, since the richer people spend more, they will pay more GST. So, the less wealthy people do benefit.

The GST taxes the rich more and reduces the need for higher individual income tax in the whole country. So I guess it helps most of us. Also, it encourages people to save more money and this benefits the economy as banks will be able to loan out more capital for businesses.

Why bother?

Well, you must understand the nature of dogs.

Dogs are always dogs. No matter what, they are always faithful/loyal to their owner.

It doesn't really matter how abusive their owner is to them, as long as they are fed with some bones regularly, they are more than willing to do whatever it takes to protect their owner.
