kramnave SG No point arguing here, its the votes of the majority that matters, not words. Trying to make news from old news is basically stirring shit.
sunnytv SG Chief Justice says: "Greed Works Most of the Time" I think the above statement oso applied on LKY, so he won't quit. Power, Money, country & people to let u play around with, so tempting & inresistable.
maven2 SG I'd agree. If the majority indeed got to vote. How many people out of the eligible people got to vote as a result of the walkovers?
Gazelle SG That will be the biggest mistake you ever made because politicians are nothing if there are no people's support and no matter how strong you are you cant never beat the people's power. Will LKY be so stupid to make his son a PM if he himself is guilty of corruption? Paper cant wrap around fire remember?
maven2 SG Gazelle. I totally agree with you. You cannot beat people's power. But you can put laws in place to prevent people from being able to have power for a long long time. You can start with: 1. Creating a system that does not give them equal opportunity to get a rally space. 2. You can give them less TV airtime. 3. Less AND/OR biased press coverage. 4. Threaten them into submission. 5. Don't let them assemble for peaceful demonstrations. 6. Sue the only potential candidates -> Get rid of them and Scare others. 7. Make them put a 10k bond to run for elections. 8. Dig up the dirt on their past mistakes and make them bogeymen. 9. Create a system where you must have as many opposition members as the current government to contest in GRCs. And then when they meet that number, increase the number of candidates. 10. Keep redrawing the GRC boundaries where you know they have a weaker base to become bigger. And then require that they match the large number of candidates to go against them. 11. Blackmail them into not getting lift upgrading if they don't vote you. 12. With all the above and with other perks and bonuses you can make them into sheep. Threaten them with sure failure. It's psychological warfare. It's actually quite easy to prevent the people from having power. The only way then to wrest control would to take the government by a coup or force. But that would result in unnecessary bloodshed and would set the country backwards. Which none of us want. Not even the opposition. We love Singapore too much to do that.
sgdiehard SG Do you know who I was referring to? You not only can't make the difference between a different opinion, an opposing proposition, an allegation, or an accusation, you can't even tell if people are talking about you. this is entertaining, if anyone is really really bored.
Gazelle SG I personally dont think this sort of tactic can be effective in winning votes from internet savy and educated singaporeans, and upgrading carrot has already been proven a failure in our last election. Can you remember PM Lee's son saying that PAP rallies are boring, thats why he choose to attend the opposition rally.
Spartans SG LKY is an important figure in the history of Singapore. No one can deny that. However, passing his 'throne' to his son made Singapore seemed lmore ike an dynasty than a democratic nation. Whether LKY is corrupted or not we cannot confirm for sure. But I do reckon the recent pay hike for the PM and ministers as 'openly and legally corruption'. They can increase when and how much they like. Isnt this legal corruption. Remember in Singapore, the ones with the utmost power is PAP, not the Laws. They can change the laws to suit their aims.
kilua SG If uprading carrot has already been proven a failure, why dont PAP stop it? thats because it has succeeded in many other constituencies. If PAP wants to hold high moral ground, it should shed the hypocrisy that upgrading carrots dont work. If they dont work, stop using it. Action speaks louder than words.
Gazelle SG I would prefer to judge PM Lee based on this contribution to Singapore in the next 5 - 10 years and not because his father is LKY. Anyway, Geoge Bush Sr hasnt been criticize because George Bush Jr was elected as President and a lousy one I must say.
maven2 SG I don't think you understand what the tactics achieve. They dont win votes. They prevent the capable people from being able to run as candidates. And without these capable candidates, you cannot have anyone else to win. It becomes a default victory. Leave those you assess as no competition alone. And get rid of those who are capable. Is it not that hard to see? And talk about the sheer volume of walkover votes. How many percent of Singaporeans above the age of 21 got to vote? PM Lee's son is promising in a way I heard. He's a rebel. My sister studied in the same school as him and it seems in his school days he was very very critical of the government policies. The poor NE coordinator of the school got the worst of it I was told. He didnt know how to respond to the son of the PM :p I just hope he doesn't eventually end up brainwashed.
maven2 SG An insult would go: No. They won't sue him even if he runs for elections :p [spelling it out for Gazelle: which means that even if he runs for elections, he will be assessed as no threat] Sorry Dude. Just an example :p
Rock^Star SG LKY earns $275,000 a month. What does he need so much money for? To bring into the grave? Or is it to show the influential circles that he's still rich and powerful? To leave money for future Lee generations? Looking at his sons and daughter-in-law (Ho Ching), is that necessary? I just saw a middle aged couple picking cans from dustbin today. They were sorting the cans out after crushing it with their feet. Assuming it's a payout of 10 cents per can, 300 cans will earn them $30. And they had better pray that Singaporeans continue their consumption of soft drinks. Now compare that paltry $30 a day with LKY's $9,000 a day. I'm disgusted.
eagle SG He needs to prepare for hospitalisation fees and to pay for a private SIA plane to bring him back to singapore anytime and from anywhere. He wasn't voted in. The opposition respected/afraid of him and let him in I would guess.
Poh Ah Pak SG PM Lee's son is promising in a way I heard. He's a rebel. My sister studied in the same school as him and it seems in his school days he was very very critical of the government policies. The poor NE coordinator of the school got the worst of it I was told. He didnt know how to respond to the son of the PM :pTwo Lees are enough to last Singapore for the next hundred years. No more Lees as rulers of Singapore! What a horrifying thought.
