UniSIM has university status like the other public-funded
universities. In the main, UniSIM caters to the adult working
population rather than full-time students who are fresh
school-leavers.
The authorities and many politicians forgot this, and thus tend to
refer to another fourth university.
There is room for more universities whether public or private. The
most important thing is not the number but the quality.
If you go to OZ, you find that every states have several
universities - both state and non-state. By state, its mean the
'official' and fully state-funded university. Each state usually
has one or maybe more in the more-populated states. Take Western
Australia - its entire population is less than SG. But it has 5
universities, only one is considered state - UWA.
Only the other hand, Victoria has 10 universities, population same
as SG, and only a few are considered state universities.
So, you see why it is easy to get into an Aussie university! There
are so many and the population of OZ is small. In WA, foreign
students even out-numbered local ones!
