I had a nightmare.
I work for a company that wants to sell all its employees its own
product due to sales plunge.
The sales man said, if you dun buy, the company will exit and
relocate company to malaysia , china and indonesia. Like this , he
said, you loose your job. To prevent this happening, he wants me to
deduct 10% of my salary to buy its product, 1 every month by
giro.
i dun want and feel very unfair situation is set upon me and all
our colleagues.
but as I am weak , I gave in to the pressure since everyone who is
approached by the salesman records our employee serial number to
indentify who is for or against buying from my company our own
products.
being a weak person, i scared to offend the company and scared to
loose my job, my rice bowl. so, i signed relunctantly. like this,
every month, my salary reduced by 10%.
so did majority of all employees. we all kiasi type.
sales plunged and investments gone haywire, our company continued
to practise this 'extortion' on all employees, who as expected by
my boss, will comply. 6 months later, they upped the selling price
to 15% my salary. i LL complied in order to protect my ricebowl and
even publicly have to praise my boss whenever the opportunity
arise, being a sarka type of singaporean that I am. i thought,
pride does not matter more than money and salary. so, I
'prostituted' my soul. my boss said well done and keep it up.
our boss next invested heavily in womanising and bad investments in
china. The company went into the reds again.
understanding the mentality of us employees, having many team
leaders on the ground who understands us thinking and get the feel
of the ground, they assessed that even if ask us to buy another 7%
more of our salaries to buy our own products, we wont mind, at
least wont show we mind. Main thing will sign.
And they did. And I complied once more. Many of us, have no place
else to go. We can only survive in this 1 company.
But this time some 10 employees got fedup and voiced dissent. kpkb
in canteen. The ground hogs overheard this and feedback channel
supplied info realtime to management. the 10 were asked to meet the
boss for coffee at the canteen at 3pm teabreak time. They were
told, either sign or their children's scholarship they applied to
the company will not be approved and they will be marked and never
get any career advancement. Their housing loans also no privilege.
Their bonus and benefits will be gone. no more salary increments.
of the 10, 5 have children and all of them applied for their
children the company scholarship. They would never be able to send
their children to good universities without this scholarship and
their pay is peanuts. The other 5 were single and too Righteous
minded. They have too much self respect and integrity and they gave
management their middle finger. that same day afternoon, those 5
people left the company all of a sudden and our team lead told us
that was their last day. the other 5 with families were told to
tell the rest they did something wrong and not the company's
fault.
The whole company went silent. Everyone looked pale. Other than the
5, all signed to get their salaries eaten to buy our own products
to support company sales results.
2 years later, the company bankrupt and the boss ran away , sold
everything in singapore and migrated to australia. The employees
were left in a lurch. All their pension and retirement gratuity all
gone.
many committed suicide. They say, before they die, why they want to
die is not because they lost the money. Its because they could not
forgive themselves for prostituting their souls, over and over
again.
