a perfect world
Theirs was a perfect world. He, a rock and roller, a slacker to the
material world. She, a bigwig in a corporate world, an up and
coming lizard up the business ladder.
Lilies in a JD bottle, by the window in the sun. Blooms by the bed,
in a harsh world that has no time or place to care for flowers or
tears. Ashtray filled to the brim, with their constant late night
debates about the world. He loves her dearly, she loves his mind
too.
She works 9 to 9, if shes lucky and does not have to entertain
sleazy slimeballs of the money world. Sits in front of the computer
screen watching the world flies by. He takes up odd jobs odd hours,
everything that he can. Paints, writes and giving speeches in
schools, mostly about the arts. Theirs was a perfect world.
They share their life stories; their dreams and aspiration. She
tells him that shes tired of the money chase, the rat race; shes
never open up her heart like this to anyone. He tells her that he
has found happiness, to live and let live. To be contended with
oneself. Finally someone who understands. Theirs was a perfect
world.
One night she came home to find her favorite dishes lay out on the
table, with a bottle of her favorite wine, chilled and ready to be
serve. He went to the supermarket early this morning. Rose petals
covered the entire dining hall. Warm water with aroma essence
running in the bath. She knows that the entire setup must have cost
him this weeks pay, but more importantly, he must have spent hours
getting everything together. She loved it and hated it both at the
same time. She felt that something was wrong but just could not put
a finger to it. Something was just not what she wanted. Today is
the day he moved in with her, a month ago. Theirs was a perfect
world.
He walks out 3 days later, under a moonless night. Dragging his
heart under the soles of his worn out shoes. Under the soul of
crying dreams. She stared at the wilted flowers in the bourbon
bottle and cried for days and nights. Her ashtray once filled, now
seem half-empty. Theirs was a perfect world.
